Preconceptions aside, this is just a great pop record, no?*
Remarkably minimalist, and much better than it needs to be in order to shift many units.
Guess what I’m saying is that now is a pretty good time to experience pop music, all things considered…
*see also Sorry and Let Me Love You
I heard this on the radio today and was reminded how much I like it.
I gave its parent album a spin, but it’s not so good.
Fair point, and one which could be made about much great pop music over the years…
A case in point being Ottawan*.
*I might be on my own there, admittedly.
Sounds like the sort of thing you can imagine Ed Sheeran singing, except I bet he’d put ‘fuck’ instead of ‘love’ in the chorus. I bet he would!
Yep. Chris Evans interviewed Ed on his R2 show and asked him whether Shape of You and Castle on the Hill were armed at R1 and R2 respectively, and he was evasive. But it’s blindlingy obvious that they are aimed at different demographics, and why not?
Well, Ed Sheeran wrote it…..
My kids love this song and will sing along. I think it’s one of the best singles I’ve heard in the last couple of years. I can’t think of anything wrong with it and I’m not even close to being bored of it despite having heard it so many times.
Damn you Afterword! I’ve just enjoyed a Justin Bieber song. All my cred is lost.
If this gets out, I’ll never be allowed into a jazz club again
