Laughing Stock would probably qualify Freddy, though categorising artists as post rock is a tricky business. Some see the label as only being about instrumental music (wrong, I think). It’s about rhythm and […]

I write for a living (despite the best efforts of AI to make me obsolete) and for pleasure. It’s the one thing I feel comes naturally to me.

It’s got to be Starsailor for me – a genuinely timeless, uncategorisable piece of work (see below)

Beautifully put niallb. Here’s my original Nights In review of the Mental Train box set (I think it went missing in action when I changed my username): Glam rock in the early 1970s proved an opportune moment […]

Should have clarified my comment — really meant live recordings of them at their 70s peak. I have pretty much nil interest in anything live from them from the 80s onwards. Post-Moon, they sounded like the d […]

Oh, and the Young Vic — but that sounds more like a workshop with a live audience.

I love that Mundell/Pablo collection, along with the Jacob Miller set, Who Say Jah No Dread. Desert island stuff for me, absolutely crucial.

I share your frustration. I can understand from a writer’s viewpoint — it’s hardly the world’s best-paid profession. But two things I notice are: 1/ many of the paywall accounts are people who are already known a […]

It’s early days for me, salwarpe, mainly using it as a prompt to write more outside my day-job, so I’ve not subscribed to many, but browsed randomly. I do, however, follow Patti Smith […]

Been listening to the new deluxe edition of the Small Faces’ Autumn Stone album plus a whole load of 70s roots reggae, especially a Niney The Observer Doctor Bird comp, Jah Fire. Also liking the new album from The […]
