Solid State Drive. Effectively a massive memory chip, in a HDD-shaped box, and lots faster than a spinning hard disk. Years ago, someone described the physics of reading a hard drive as “flying a helicopter an […]

I had an old slow Windows 7 Intel i3 laptop with a 5400rpm hard drive and it would regularly grind to a halt. I swapped the HDD for a SSD and it sprang into life, and is still in regular use, at least a decade […]

I recently bought a load of Soft Cell 12″ singles. My goodness, when they were good they were great. RIP, Dave.

I just checked my 7″, it has a jukebox push-out centre so I can barely read the label. That’s what you get for 50p!

Yes, Marijne Van Der Vlugt – I own a record by Salad. Similarly, I bought Hobo Humpin’ Slobo Babe by Whale on 12″, which featured Henrik Schyffert in the band. The album was rubbish, though.

On holiday somewhere with satellite telly, I watched the MTV unplugged sets by The Cure, Nirvana and Neil Young. All were excellent. I haven’t been near MTV for about 25 years, though.

fentonsteve commented on the post, Cockney Rejects – time for a reappraisal? 1 week, 4 days ago
Yes. Music for me is really a live thing, rather than a recorded thing, depsite the hi-fi and the record collection. I’m sure the Rejects are great live. Would I go to an Oi gig full of Garry Bushell readers, […]

15+ years ago, my cycling-mad colleague clipped his bike’s front wheel against a kerb, as he was being overtaken by a taxi, whilst on his way home… from the pub. He rang me in the morning to say he wouldn’t be […]

New Order – All Day Long from the under-appreciated LP, Brotherhood. Barney’s best lyric, and his best attempt at singing, and everybody else seems to be pulling in the same direction.
