I’m ashamed to say I remember the days when the “designated driver” would have four or five pints, then nobly “go onto halves, because I’m driving”.
In Ontario, Canada on Sat going to a festival in a small town there was a police barricade halting everybody on the main road into town. I stopped and wound down the window Police Officer: “Have you had any alcohol today?”, Me : “No”. “Have a nice evening” No Nickelback required, but I think first time that has ever happened to me (in any country).
