I love AC/DC and I find it fascinating how well known their songs are despite the fact that none of them have been hits. Even the Clash have had better chart placings than AC/DC, at least in the UK. Highway to Hell? No. 56 in 1979. Whole Lotta Rosie? The live version got to No. 36 during the Heavy Metal annus mirabilis of 1980. You Shook Me all Night Long? No. 38 in the same year. Is there another band that can fill stadiums with album tracks? Pink Floyd, I suppose.
My theory for why the songs are well known is that male music fans either go through an AC/DC phase when they’re 13 or have a friend that does. So they were either a fan or a fan by proxy and when they grow up they retain fond memories for these songs.
If Melbourne was “the home of Mr Scott” as Brian says, why is there a statue of him in Fremantle?
First time in 25 years.

Success has many parents. Kerriemuir in Scotland, Melbourne, Sydney., Perth/Fremantle and Adelaide can all lay a claim to a piece of him.
I’ll reiterate that they are an Aussie band. They certainly didn’t change their sound when they left our shores – just bigger and louder.
Never had a greatest hits album. I guess the memorability of the songs is the simplicity of the riffs and the lyrics. Esp choruses.
Krokus. The band AC/DC could have been.
