Blimey, another book!
The 12″ of Lazarus is one of the best records of the 90s.
Great song. The Slade story is one I’ve wanted to write for ages – my wife grew up very close to Noddy’s parents house and the band are so revered in the Black Country. Even though I read Nod’s book, years ago, I’d forgotten that Don’s girlfriend died in the accident. So much of the detail of that time came from a recent interview with Don where he was prompted by his wife, who had got the info from Dave. I loved writing it because I love them as a band, and as people. Even though they were hardened by years of gigging before any success, there is an innocence about them that is so endearing.
I knew nothing about the Boo’s so that was fun to do. As for the studio? Nothing. I’ve always been able to find interviews with people in technical mags that give me some details but, apart from an old advert for the console, there is nothing out there.
