Can’t get the Bandcamp player to embed, but you can follow the link in the OP to listen. First impressions are good, albeit only a gentle evolution after three years of silence. Very ambient, not much percussion or rhythm, but pretty melodies and ghostly chopped up vocals.
I didn’t know about Temple Sleeper, it must be said. That video indicates it’s not on Hyperdub, which maybe explains why. I reckon the Sweetz track is more Zomby than Burial, so I kind of ignored that one – I was going on the Rival Dealer 12″ from 2013.
That aside, what did you think of the record? As I say, I like it, but after a couple of plays I went back and listened to the South London Boroughs 12″ again, and I have to say I liked that a lot more.
Fab, that’s cheered me up. Just crept into bed after doing the first half of the night’s hourly syringe feeds of our poorly baby guinea pig*. The missus is doing the next few, as my nighttime meds makes waking up every hour an extreme improbability for the first few hours after taking them and I’ve delayed taking them longer than is particularly pleasant for me. Although as I felt a sharp pain in my left side on trying to get up off the floor (don’t think my kids believe how difficult that task is for their old dad!) after the last feed and now have nerve pain shooting in every which direction, I can’t imagine I’ll be full of beans when I wake up. But at least I now have a couple of new Burial tracks to look forward to. And an old one, as I use Distant Lights as my alarm call.
*he’s a resiliant little thing, because after losing a fair bit of weight overnight yesterday I feared for the worst yesterday morning when the missus and daughter sneaked him out of the house to the vets, whilst I distracted our 6 year old lad with his breakfast and getting ready for school. As I walked Lucas to school I was dreading the conversation we’d have to have later, but the piggy seems to be making a quick recovery and was happily tucking into a piece of apple when I left him.
Mmm, must be time to turn the light out. I’ve turned a discussion about Burial into a ramble about a poorly baby guinea pig in my sleep deprived state…
He’s called Popcorn, but only because the missus, my daughter and me strongly suggested the name as a substitute for what my 6 year old son originally decided to call him. On the way back from Pets At Home in Barnsley my daughter announced hers was going to be called Pippin, whilst Lucas decided his would be called…Percy! We convinced him it wasn’t a very guinea piggy name (and the poor little piggy would be taunted mercilessly if he went out round Barnsley on a Saturday night), so we agreed on Popcorn.
He’s much better this morning, by the way. Back to running round the cage like Dougal on sugar lumps just because we’ve topped his hay up. The guinea pig, that is, not my son.
While we’re on the Dubstep Class of 2005 alumni, Pinch has made another record with Adrian Sherwood. The last one was a better, so this is good news. Out in February.

I’m probably bound to, but I think this is absolutely brilliant. Young Death, in particular.
Not another celebrity death in 2016.
Oh sorry, as you were
Three years of silence?
Released this year, Sweetz with Zomby
In 2015, Temple Sleeper
In fairness to Kid, “Three Years of Silence” could easily be a rare, white label Burial track the rest of us haven’t heard yet.

I’m with you on Sweetz. It feels like a Zomby track, which is usually a good thing, but not in this instance given the alternative.
Temple Sleeper didn’t do it for me at all.
Hence, this does feel like the first new Burial in a long ass time. Has it really been half a decade since Street Halo?

What’s his name? If I had a guinea pig, I’d call him Nick…Nick Cavy.
Very good.
