Don’t mention the second album … I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it. Released in a wave of expectation and hype, common opinion is it failed to deliver. I like it – OK it’s not the equal of […]

Excellent song with an excellent title. Almost like he came up with the title, tried to lever it into a song lyric and wrote a song (a mini-play?) around it. And 1973 doesn’t feature greatly in the history of […]

I do like the standing, wandering, getting different vantage points, but … Mrs D had some complimentary tickets for a gig at Shepherds Bush Empire. “do you want standing or sitting?” the box office […]

Indeed, there’s nothing bad about the album. But there isn’t anything truly great or original in the takes either. Perfectly listenable as a stand alone thing.

In the 80s, when you couldn’t watch it there was a certain mythical nature about it that you just wanted to watch it. (and when Stingo and Mark sang “I want my MTV”, it built on the desire to finally watch […]

Rain (in retrospect, because I wouldn’t have known it at the time) does seem an odd omission from the Red. A bit like the inclusion of Old Brown Show on the Blue.

If Blur are mentioned, then Oasis won’t be far behind. Married With Children, last track on Definitely Maybe. Shorn of the bombast and multi tracking of the rest of the album, and closes things out nicely

French horn interlude nicked from Sibelius Fifth Symphony. Later nicked again by Strawberry Switchblade on Since Yesterday – and he gets a writing credit on neither.
