That’s definitely part of it. And if you only ever listened to albums that are masterpieces from beginning to end you would be missing out on awful lot of great tunes, exactly the kind that make a good list.

When I say ‘large playlist’ I mean about 400 tunes. Shuffling is essential.

My fave of all time though is The Best of the Spencer Davis group with Steve Winwood. IMO Steve never equalled most of these performances in his later career. He’d done it all already.

But some of the best compilations are in fact not greatest hits at all. For example the Doors’ Weird Scenes inside the Goldmine.

Yeah, these terms tend to shift. Take ‘dig’ for example. It shifts its meaning from ‘understand’ (Can you dig it?) to ‘like’ (I dig your wig).
