Wow, that was spectacular. Tigs, you have a gift. I love the album reviewed, as I do a lot of mid-70s slyly jazz-funk informed Americana (see Joni Mitchell and Boz Scaggs). The only way to improve TLRA would be to […]

I’m seeing Rick Wakeman do King Arthur on Friday. I expect a rather cheaper show than this.

Andrew doesn’t have that excuse; ALLEGEDLY he doesn’t drink.

Utter twat. Below Nickelback in the popularity league. Might be above Jim Davidson and Roy “Chubby” Brown, I suppose. But it’s close.

The definitive answer. Pretty much applies to Jimmy Page, too. I spent an underwhelming night in 1985 watching “The Firm” at the Edinburgh Playhouse. A lot of talent and kit in search of, er, songs and per […]

Though I’m a Free-frowner, I find the early Bad Co singles THE definitive early 70s blues rock. Soon as I hear “good Lovin’ Gone Bad”, my thumbs are in my belt and I have an urge for a greebo dance.

This is the right answer. And mend where you can. Then, when you do need to replace, the bugs have been out, and it’s mass produced and cheap. Flash kit is a sucker’s money pit. I’ve known hifi buffs.

I reckon the mystique of ‘Ver Zep is now passing hugely. You needed to be an adolescent in the 70s to really get them. The worst things about them (viz., screechy vocals, cough Axl, Coverdale, cough) were […]

On that recommendation, I’ll revisit these. Gotta remain open-minded.

I adore the first five Roxy Music albums, but “Manifesto” onward, think they are spotty. Ferry’s 70s solo albums are delightful, and I rather enjoyed his “The Jazz Age”, too. “801 Live” is one of the most primo […]

Hasn’t the FGTH WTTP already had a couple of fancy re-releases? All this re-releasing seems like a fire-sale rather than the discovery of undiscovered gold.

When the Rolling Stones had been going 25 years, Charlie Watts said “it was 5 years of work, and 20 years hanging around”. Bored in the next 5 years, he had a brief heroin habit to fill in the time before their […]

Musically, that sounds great. Quite fancy it if it comes back to the UK. But GC’s presence sounds a bit sad, really.

Sorry, I realise I may have been too prescriptive , and you do eloquently show the lack of much going on here. Maybe it was the unnecessary reference to Styx. But I do hold to my basic point: an analysis of the […]

It’s a step to far for me, and I can hear the merit in the first Boston album.

This plodding forced third division rock was dire, and I’m not one to dismiss 70s shite generally. Take Styx – especially in the mime trousers era, – a camp classic Kiss or Angel could not sponge the velvet […]

I think when I discovered Yes has produced 18 live albums, plus a box set with 7 shows from the same tour in 1972, I just felt ennui. I’ve seen them many times; at their best, they are sublimely tight and Steve […]
