“The gold road’s sure a long road Winds on through the hills for fifteen days The pack on my back is aching The strap seams cut me like a knife” Curious lyrics – apparently inspired by watching The Treasure […]

In some ways it’s hard to believe these two are the same song – both sound amazing and capture my head, but such different tempos and feels:

Though I’d happily listen to any of the first four albums at any time, (the quality dropping sharply and remaining low after Substance), Movement is the least of these, as it is a transitional ‘chrysalis’ album […]

Connoisseur: Power Corruption and Lies, surely? No obvious singles on that one, and it’s where they really started to flourish.

That is sad news. As is said above, two absolute classic double acts, Soft Cell and The Grid in which he weaved his musical magic. I’m more of a Grid fan, loving so many of their tracks, I don’t know which […]

I go away to a German island for a week, and the AW kicks off big time with a nostalgia fest. Let Niglet celebrate with a hamper.

On the fiddling post, I already detailed my live music experience for the month – Beethoven and Vivaldi. The 7th symphony was extraordinary – the more time I go to see it performed, the more I love it. The […]

This post is off the front page now, so I can assume there won’t be any more additions to it. A good time, then, to thank you all for the musical contributions you’ve made. A lot to listen to, and I will enjoy doing so.

Random play is great, as is discovering and rediscovering songs. I found Bole2Harlem from a random play of a Now Hear This cd. Sadly they only released one album, but it’s a good one. What was the Laurie Anderson?

Just by posting Laurie Anderson, you win the whole thread. It’s a new piece for me, so a double bonus. Thanks!

Ecstatic! It feels like it should be part of a Waterboys song. I’m surprised they haven’t made a showing on the thread yet.

That cuts off cruelly just before the orchestra return to soothe the scratches of the solo with the balm of their harmonies. Luckily when I played it on YouTube, it went straight into part two, and so I got it. […]

I had a soft spot for Sophie B. Hawkins. She was so eager, like a puppy, but her songs never quite hit the spot (a bit like Eddi Reader after she left Fairground Attraction). Except this one, this was great:
