‘(No More) the sub-mariner’ by Peter Hammill. In fact, almost everything from Hammill has a great title and backed up by equally great lyrics. Sometimes true of Morrissey too. Although arguably a lesser artist on […]

Doyle’s book on the 70s Macca (“Man on the Run”) is very good so I might have a look at this even though my interest in Ringo is negligible.

Sadly not. Much as I respect her as an artist I could never get on with her voice and those long, swooping and seemingly endless melody lines. I liked Big Yellow Taxi mind. But she stopped doing that one…

Phew. Thankfully nothing there for me so I can have a lie in.

As a fellow Moby Grape fan I gave his version of ‘It’s a Beautiful Day Today’ a listen and thought it was rather marvellous. Spurred by this I gave the album a quick spin on Spotify but, even though the ‘right’ […]

They got better as they got along. This was a step up from Go 2 but I can’t say that I return to it all that often.

I know nothing about golf and generally align with the Mark Twain quote. But I like to think that I do know something about manners.

Not one of their best really is it? ‘Fool to Cry’ and ‘Melody’ are both top notch but the rest of it is pretty sub-standard stuff.

Call me a sucker if you will but I’ve pre-ordered the full fat version (just like I did with all the others). Sometimes I listen to them more than once. (No, really). And the packaging is always Japanese-level lovely.

Did they show that bit when he did Cypress Avenue on Comic Relief? You know, with the puppets. And the custard pie?

Interesting to ponder that if Wales had won this (difficult to imagine I know) would we have had the same level of media hysteria? Probably scraped fifth story on the Ten o clock news at best. And no mention at […]

Wasn’t there. I was at school. Probably wouldn’t have gone anyway as it was likely to be way too crowded for my tastes. But I did buy Captain Fantastic and loved it. I reckon it’s one of his finest albums. I liked […]

They were fun for a while but, for me anyway, the charm is beginning to wear a bit thin by now. And I always wished they’d spent more time on the actual ‘songs’- which were perennially tuneless and half-heartedly […]

I too am hugely uninterested generally in any ‘new thang’ – especially if espoused by the likes of Kitty Empire in the Observer. But, I do seriously love The Lemon Twigs. (Probably because they sound like a band from 1971).

“There’s a killer on the road His brain is squirming like a toad.” I blame all that adolescent adoration of the equally appalling Rimbaud.
