I’ve enjoyed both of Coe’s last two books – Wilder & Me is slight, but pleasant and kind of hit the spot. I thought Middle England was good, he was getting a little too preachy about Brexit/Blair/Iraq for my taste […]

Interesting stuff about The Magdala, but it’s closed, not just due to Covid. There is an application to re-open it, hopefully as a pub. A good owner could make so much of it. I was down there last month, peeked in […]

Ahem, Dirty Leeds here. The Whitelocks Ale House is still a great one; ale and food. The portions are huge so in effect their fish finger sandwiches are more than enough.

Oh come on, don’t be such a buzzkill. We’ll have retained sovereignty over ‘our waters’, so kippers for breakfast, and lunch, and tea, and pre-nap snack.

A long time ago, 1976 – 82. The Flask was another good one and David Bedford did a lot of local campaigning to stop pub closures.

My favourite now is The Pineapple in Kentish Town, thankfully rescued a good few years back. It hasn’t been tarted up too much, it does what a pub should do – serve good beers and ever changing without resorting […]

I was at what I think was her last U.K gig, supporting Ian Dury at the London Palladium in February that year (clearly not, reading the comments above). She was getting over her stage fright, and whilst you could […]

Big fan of Len Deighton, thought he had a real purple patch in the 1980s with his Bernie Samson series and Winter which I thought was exceptional. Agreed about Bomber but there was a lot of very unexceptional […]

A big fan of the German stuff, thought The Same Sky was exceptional – better than the two Deutschlands, though I find the scenes involving Klara (the young swimmer) very hard to watch. Can’t wait to see how they […]

100% agreed on the partisanship/rivalries bit. Football is a much poorer thing without it. Just look at the anodyne behind closed doors nonsense we’re watching now, or not. I do take issue with what you have to […]

I hope he will be remembered as a brilliant player first of all.
He played with passion, loved playing and brought joy to many, including me. I am half Neapolitan and for a few short beautiful years, he made the […]

Yes, was going to mention this. Great gags, characters and warm hearted above all. The final episode was great.
The Royle family was good for the first two series, but lost its way
Bilko – brilliant.
When I […]

In answer to the question, nothing. They are both the same – unprincipled bullies. In a saner world, she would have been out the door following her demonising of the legal profession – particularly those who […]

Point of order.
Never out of the top 4 for 10 successive years from 64/65 through to 73/74 during which time twice champions, FA & League cup, 2 European wins and cheated out of the Cup Winners Cup and the […] -

Celebrated 50 years as a fan this year, and delighted. I am more pleased for Bielsa than anything else, thought he was looking under pressure the past few weeks. It’s clear he wanted this as much as the Leeds […]

It was bigged up in The Times, looked forward to it but it was very underwhelming and dull. There was no sense of what made it a special place. A few funny stories, but tiresome to have Liam Gallagher effing and […]

1. Gardening mostly. The roses look lovely despite me. More bird spotting, and nature ‘highlight’ was watching two foxes squaring up to each other. I could have done without the fox poo outside the front door […]
