It is their last tour isn’t it?
Why bother?
That said , a singer mate of mine goes on about how you gotta have faith in the drummer and if you lose it, as a singer, you are stuffed.
They have used other drummers since Zak joined, strangely often on official releases. The Quadrophenia live album from about a decade ago features the afore mentioned Scott Devours. The 2 studio albums released in the post Kenney Jones era feature Zak on only a total of 5 tracks, 1 on Endless Wire, 4 on WHO.
Did anyone ever listen to them?
Great in their day but long past their sell by date. Saw them at Hyde Park I am guessing about 10-12 years ago. Truly awful.
I saw them in 1971 and they were mighty. That however was a very, very long time ago. I wouldn’t get off my couch to watch them them now if they were playing at my local Palais de Danse.
These days the insurance for touring musicians in countries other than their own (post Covid) is astronomical, even more so if they have any known health conditions. I have no idea if Zak does.
Scott Devours is American, and that’s where the tour is.
Another to fall foul of Daltrey – see also Kenney Jones, Pino Palladino and Rabbit Bundrick.
So The Who now is effectively Daltrey’s solo touring band, for which Scott is the drummer, plus Pete! At the end of the day I suppose who really cares who is on drums (and bass for that matter) – it’s a two man show as with AC/DC and The Stones (albeit with 3 you could perhaps argue in the latter instance).
Jones didn’t get off to a good start when he replaced Moon, something to do with a lump sum payment he was excluded from right at the beginning of his tenure. When I read his book, I didn’t really warm to him and while I know little about The Who, Daltrey seems to be a not so benign dictator with Pete keeping his head down.
Was just talking to a friend the other day about the phenomenon of liking old favourites considerably less once you’ve read their books. Grahams Nash and Coxon are both classic examples of this.
Ditto – Always used to think Nash was the best of the four in CSNY. Came away from his autobiog realizing he was every bit as narcissistic as the other three

(cough) Oasis (cough)
Sounds like things got a bit narkey with Starkey. What a mullarkey.
Strummer lacks drummer come summer – bummer.
There’s a lot of it about.
The Foo Fighters are now also
a drummer lighter.
Dave Grohl told the current sticksman
that’s all
Scott Devours as the replacement…excellent name!
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are Müller light.

Were you mates with George Michael, Junior? I think we should be told…

The 2013 Quadrophenia show was brilliant

Lucky you. Saw them first in 81 at Deeside Leisure Centre. My hearing never fully recovered
Saw them at Charlton in May 74 and not again until last year’s TCT gigs at the RAH.
1974 was better
You astonish me, Holmes!

And Canada …
Will soon be renamed Trumpiana.
Don’t even joke about that crap
Yeah, sorry- it’s probably wrong to try and find humour in this subject.
No worries, it’s an extremely sensitive situation here

I think from Pete’s book he did get a big pay off when they sacked him though.
So Pete’s managed to finish writing at least one book, then, eh?
Having opened his autobiog with high expectations and read it, I really wish he’d shelved that one, too
Agreed. I actually couldn’t listen to his music for a few years after reading that book. Awful
Neil Y’s Waging Heavy Peace was another one that I was really looking forward to that turned out to be awful

Agree once more.
He comes across as the Alan Partridge of west coast rock. Its very “Needless to say, I had the last laugh”
That paid for another Polo pony no doubt
Roger also the one holding it together wasn’t he?
Well, with the Stones Darryl Jones has been in harness since around ’94, so coming up to thirty years, almost as long as Bill!
Yeah let’s argue for Ronnie Wood, played every gig and is on every album for just about 50 years!
On a side note, there was the famous story about the time Humphrey Lyttelton asked a young boy what he wanted to do after he left school.
The boy told him “When I grow up, I want to be a drummer”.
Humph replied “You can do the one thing, son, or you can do the other. Not both.”
