I invite you all to share with us your last three online purchases. It may give us a tantalising glimpse into your glamorous lifestyle, or, you know… not.
Here are mine:
1) Saline nasal spray.
2) 3V lithium button batteries for in-ear thermometer.
3) Headphones extension cable (3.5mm female to 6.5mm male).
Yes, I am at home with the lurgi.
*pathetic cough*
1. The 3rd It’s Immaterial album. (OK, my bank account has been debited but the release date has gone back again!)
2. The 2 cd re-release of Turtle Soup by the Mock Turtles…41 tracks!
3. Some flowers for my sister in law who has just had a double heart bypass op. All gone well thankfully.
Cripes. Glad it went well Freddy.
Wow, your sis is a Time Lord!!! Impressed doesn’t come close to it.
1. AKG mic for studio bargain price $240 down from $450
2. Remastered Trout Mask Replica vinyl package from Third Man Records (paid for but don’t get it for a while)
3. Antonio Carlos Jobim sheet music songbook
That is such a ‘Mousey’ list!
you said it Mini.
1) Two charcoal bath towels for my daughters flat when she starts Uni in September.
2) Two Natalie Merchant tickets
3) New Dave Alvin and Ry Cooder albums although not released for a few more weeks yet.
Oh and Freddy my brother in law had quadruple bypass in February – He has since lost 3 stone in weight, stopped smoking and never looked so well for years. NHS surgeons are top class.
Unlike most normal people I dislike getting new bath towels. Big fluffy ones are all very well for wrapping oneself in post-ablutions, but when it comes to the rubdown I favour an old, thin towel. The more daylight I can see through it the better.
“When it comes to the rubdown” – one of my favourite Parliament tracks.
Re: old, thin towels
We’re still using a bath towel that was given to my parents as a wedding present exactly 60 years ago. Admittedly, though, we don’t actually use it any more for drying one’s body after a shower, as there’s no tuftiness left on it at all. No, we use it to clean up matters when unpleasant things have been spilled on the floor. Ideal.
I have a towel, about the size of beer towel, which accompanied me on my first day at school around 44 years ago. Its size makes it ideal to go in the pannier for a shower when I cycle to work. It still has its name tag, including middle initial. Again, not a great deal of tuftiness remaining but it gets the job done.
I’m tuftiness
Tuftiness
Tuftiness
Thin toweliness
Wrapped in an old thin towel you’d be seeing more than daylight.
Hurrr
You going to see her at Komedia in Bath in July?
Ooh, good thread. Will you be selling our data to the Leave campaign?
1. The Machine Stops by EM Forster (Kindle Edition). A snip at 75p and well worth a read. Written in 1909 and it’s COMING TRUE!
2. Post Truth: The New War on Truth and How to Fight Back by Matthew d’Ancona (Kindle Edition). It’s also COMING TRUE! Or is it? OR IS IT???
3. Miracle-Gro Potting Mix – 8 Litre.
I read The Machine Stops at school. You’re absolutely right about it coming true. Think I’ll read it again, cheers.
Remember that book The Last Man Who Knew Everything? Pretty soon we’ll be able to write a book called The Last Man Who Knows Anything. (If we can still write)
Wacom drawing tablet for daughter (she’s paying but I ordered)
2 way HDMI splitter. Strips HDCP and gives analog or optical audio out
Calexico tickets
@davebigpicture tell me more about no. 2 Do you have a link?
@dai These will give you analog audio on 2 x phono/RCA connectors as well as an optical connection. Not high end audio but fine for X Box or general DVD discs etc. I use these to put audio through a PA where the laptop is at the end of a long HDMI cable. The HDCP removal is a bonus where there are non HDCP compliant devices in the system resulting in a blank screen. Putting this between, say, a Blu Ray and a switcher should sort out any HDCP issues. If the HDCP thing is what you’re looking for then there are a number of similar devices and the reviews usually mention whether or not they remove HDCP.
Hope this helps

Thanks!
@davebigpicture An update. I ordered something very similar from amazon Canada with overnight shipping. Am now able to record streaming content to my ancient DVD recorder that had previously been gathering dust for about a decade. Excellent!
That’s great!
And it cost $18! Thanks again.
A chair, some bird food, six bottles of port.
Both true and the basis for a top night in.
PS. Mini I notice the girth of your male is greater than the capacity of your female. How does that work? Asking for a friend.
Never mind that, what are you feeding your bird these days?
I wish I could answer this in a way that does’t include the phrase “a sack of seed” because I know what you’re like.
1. Huge box of dog biscuits
2. Huge box of PG Tips (hard to find in Germany)
3. Book about Berthold Wolpe, wonderful typeface designer
Berthold Wolpe! Berthold Wolpe!!
I don’t care what he did, the fact that a guy called Berthold Wolpe has merely existed has made my day.
Best name ever!
1. Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers live Blu-ray
2. Region free Blu-ray kit
3. Pyjamas
1. Click and collect grocery order from a supermarket.
2. Sundry items from Lakeland.
3. Filter for kitchen drinking water tap.
Um…
1) stereo headphone jack socket to stereo input (for testing out the school’s PA kit).
2) stereo headphone jack to stereo input (for testing out the school’s PA kit when I realised the 3.5mm male to male cables were all knackered).
3) The Dorling Kindersley illustrated encyclopaedia of Star Wars characters.
I’ve also bought a bus ticket through an online app recently, but didn’t count that.
1. A nice bottle of Saint-Véran from our state alcohol monopoly organisation, Systembolaget.
2. DVD of Series 1 of the “Mum” sitcom, as so many people on this site have recommended it. It had better be good!
3. The new CD by Hampshire & Foat, entitled “The Honeybear”. A big klaxon going out to all those of you who, like me, loved last year’s Hampshire & Foat album “Galaxies like Grains of Sand!”
1) As Time Goes By, by Derek Taylor (Beatles publicist)
2) Assorted Dolce Gusto Coffee Pods
3) The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass – for the daughter who’s just seen off Northern Lights.
None more pseudo middle class wanker.
Oh God. I’ve just remembered, I made my own Lemon Curd at the weekend as well.
I can well imagine what my Swarfega-using, clothes-bought-for-him-by-my-Mother, ‘Will I like this?’-asking Dad would have said.
1. Two-month supply of Probiotic capsules to ensure healthy gut flora. Did I ever mention I have Crohn’s? Yes you bloody did – the Afterword
2. 2 litres of One-Shot toilet unblocker. Did I ever mention, etc…
3. Two 100 LP capacity light cases to store the vinly collection I recently bought from a neighbour.
Edith would like to point out that I should have said “flight cases”
You should hire a Ferarri for half a day and park it outside your gaff. When the neighbour asks if it’s yours, tell him he inadvertently sold you some choice collectable vinyl, and you really hadn’t a clue they were worth so much.
She’s my age and most is 1980s chart pop, which I didn’t buy at the time because I was reading NME.
The most valuable is her dad’s mono 1966 Revolver, which she excitedly told me “must be worth at least 50 quid”. Going by the numbers in dead wax, it is third pressing of the second edition and worth £15 tops. Civillians, eh?
Unless someone wants to offer me Ferarri money for two copies of Dire Straits’ Money For Nothing compilation, that is.
most is 1980s chart pop, which I didn’t buy at the time because I was reading NME.
classic
Yes, AWTS and all that. I learned to have fun in 1990. It only took two years at university to realise I was a miserable arse. Since then I’ve been a pedantic arse with a smile on my face.
Does Number 2* come with its own detonator or do you have to buy that separately?
(*hur)
A). “Brass Lamp Kit 8 For Wiring of Wooden Lamp Bases”
B), “10 pcs. Torx Screwdriver Set T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8 & T10”
Both of those expected to be delivered today from Amazon.
C). 2 CDs. “Mike Westbrook – Paris – 19 Rue Paul Fort – July 2016” and “Melanie De Biasio – Lilies” delivered on Saturday morning, also from Amazon.
Retro radio for dementia sufferers. One button so no confusion occurs.
3 Wardrobes and 2 chests of drawers (chest of drawerses?) – we are “doing up” the house.
And on a more AW theme the Almost Famous soundtrack, for the edit of Yeses’ “All Good People”
Scratching my head, but I think, going from the most recent …
1) Tickets for the summer season at the Royal Opera House (La Boheme and Don Giovanni). General sale tickets only went on sale yesterday.
2) Return train ticket from Essex to Liverpool (poorly mother had a heart op. Gawd bless the NHS etc.)
3) Moulds which make ice spheres for drinks (the ad actually called them ’round ice cubes’ which I can’t be doing with.)
Oh, hang on. Does something bought on a local Facebook group count? ‘Bought’ online but cash on delivery? If so you can lose the round ice ‘cubes’ and replace them with a mango wood TV unit. I’d been looking for one for ages to replace an aging, and in it’s time very cheap, Argos flat-pack number. Spotted on Saturday evening, delivered on Easter Sunday morning and 40 quid instead of north of 200. Result!
Metal skewer for baked potatoes(cuts cooking time in half, supposedly).
Eat a Peach. Allman Brothers CD. Our pal’s daughter just had a baby girl and named her Martha. Duane Allman plays a beautiful instrumental on it called ‘Little Martha’. I emailed her the track.
American Psycho DVD. We’re babysitting on Saturday night, so only the wine to get.
Wow. When I was young enough to be babysat the best I could hope for was a glass of ribena and the Generation Game.
Me hate babysitters!
Lovely track -also on Duane Allman anthology.
1. Tickets to see Book of Mormon in that there London next month.
2. Some kids’ books from the taxdodgers (there’s a 2 for 7 quid offer on, including loads of Julia Donaldson stuff).
3. Paid for my parking this morning, does that count?
1. Tickey to Sardinia for short break next week. (Break from what? Break from not being in Sardinia.)
2. Police Certificate. (For citizenship application.)
3. Cannabis seeds. (Let it grow. Dood.)
Are 2. and 3. part of the same order? Do you have a “guy”?
Sexist.
You know it!
Never Mind The Bollox 40th Anniversary edition
Apple Watch – present for the current Mrs Lemonhope’s birthday
Barr Brothers tickets for Manchester in July
Bit perturbed by your reference to the current Mrs Lemonhope…have you got another one lined up?
A CD player to replace the CD player that I’m sending back because it’s so bloody choosy about what it will and won’t play (Denon, since you ask).
Printer ink cartridges.
Something Blue by Escher & Blocks, which is the album they’re saying is the best drum & bass album since Timeless. I’ve listened to it several times and it is indeed very, very good.
All most interesting so far, but mostly in line with you’d expect from each poster. No big surprises yet, for example Tigger buying Appetite For Destruction.
If I’d started this thread a couple of days earlier my three items would be from a single order, from Vistaprint. A t-shirt for me, another for Mr B, and a mug – all bearing this image:
Who are those two guys? Are they famous?
They’re the “other two” from BBC4’s cult hit The Detectorists.
Your question reminds me of my dad’s refrain, “These people must be celebrities, I haven’t a fucking clue who any of them are”
Oh wow, thanks! For ages I’d assumed it was Cannon & Ball, just not looking very much like Cannon & Ball.
Rock on, Frank Lloyd Wright!
Aka (in the programme) Simon and Garfunkel, hence the photoshopped album cover.
Oh. I thought it was Bob Carolgees and Chris Tarrant.
Paul Simon looks like he is in Open All Hours.
I’m getting the disturbing feeling that there are people among us who haven’t seen The Detectorists.
That’d be me. What is it and why should I be interested in it?
And me.
I can fit in about one to one and a half ours TV per evening and that has to be something agreeable to the aardvarkessnever. I probably ought to go into bat for “The Detectorists” (the Dowager aardvarkessnever is a fan) but when we finally flop into our easy chairs there’s always plenty of other stuff to wind down to.
The last actual purchase against my account was a Sushi delivery by my 15yr old who was too damn lazy to walk 10mins to the local shopping centre for dinner (we were out).
The last 3 things I ordered were…
1. new Apple Bluetooth keyboard that has the built in rechargeable battery (fed up of the batteries running out on the old one)
2. New Mansun / Attack of Grey Lantern deluxe set from Burning Shed (out in June)
3. Two tickets for this weekends Singapore Jazz Festival for Friday and Saturday night (GoGo Penguin in Friday night and wife favourite Jamie Cullum on a Saturday)
Tickets
The Rails in Halifax next month
Richard Thompson at Gawsworth Hall in August (pre festival gig)
Nowt else (well nothing I can remember)
Chickenhawk as recommended on here
Glucosamine tablets for me dodgy knees
Instant Pot recipe book ready for “Why did you buy a pressure cooker at Christmas again?” question
12 coat hooks from B&Q
An Amazon gift voucher for my nephew (Happy birthday Gino)
Twangs latest album from Bandcamp
A Behringer UV300 Vibrato pedal for laughably silly money. It’s a copy of a pedal Boss don’t make any more, though they make a ’boutique’ version for £189. Said Behringer pedal makes me sound a bit like Jason Falkner – satisfied customer.
Some tickets to see John Finnemore and his chums tearing it up at the Richmond Theatre in June. Cannot wait, though I forgot it coincided with an in-laws visit. GLW less than impressed.
And if it counts (and I say it does), this single by Anna Burch from iTunes, which breezes along pleasingly in a Julianna Hatfield kind of way.
1. Rob Young’s All Gates Open: The Story Of Can – I don’t read books but I’ve been inspired by Blogger Takeover.
2. Orquesta Akokan – Arriving tomorrow.
3. Jasmine Pure Silk Thermal Liner Glove (Medium) 100gsm – Bargain price now the weather has improved.
No. 3 is terrifying, Tig.
Terrifying.
1. Book about weird band.
2. Weird record (probably)
3. Weird gloves (inevitably).
Nothing to see here. I’d have been more alarmed if it had been, say, printer toner and coffee beans.
Everybody needs warm hands whatever their sexual proclivities. I presume that was what you were referring to.
I’m with Mini here, simply terrifying
This could be an interesting evening
https://www.waterstones.com/events/can-irmin-schmidt-and-rob-young-with-stuart-maconie/manchester-deansgate
1. 3×1 Toslink Digital Optical Audio Switcher – to solve a lipsync issue between a Sony TV and Sonos (works a treat, by the way, I know you were desperate to know)
2. Ebook – The Widows Guild by Anna Castle (Tudor Mystery)
3. Golden Gravel 20mm Jumbo Bag (i.e. half a ton – figuratively if not literally) for a patch of the garden
2 Kodak 30XL black ink cartridges. Delivery imminent
1 Hortsmann Economy 7 Quartz Timeswitch with 2 hour boost
My Book of Genesis by Richard Macphail with foreword by Peter Gabriel
The recent thread on CDs/streaming made me realise I’d never looked into Spotify.
Listening to Hergest Ridge, for the first time in years, had me checking on what guitars were used, which mentioned his autobiography – so:
1. Changeling: Mike Oldfield
Looking on Youtube, a Shelby Lynne song “Tell me I’m crazy” popped up (which I’d never heard)
2. Temptation: Shelby Lynne (a cheapie music magpie cd)
The video for Tell Me had me thinking I’d like a lap steel guitar, but can’t justify the cost.
3. Grover perfect nut (£9.50) which raises the height of the strings without ruining the tuning.
And here’s that video
1. Reading Festival ticket for 16 year old daughter
2. 12 Rules For Life by Jordan Peterson
3. Bacopa supplement (herbal, varied purpose)
I first read no.2 as “12 Rules For Life by Jordan Henderson” Ha!
I imagine the Liverpool midfield dynamo would have quite a few useful tips for how to live one’s life in the best possible manner. Such a book would probably be a great little read.
Three in App purchases for the kids to help them learn and grow (allegedly).
Three Motörhead albums then?
Angel Witch singles. This is Uncle Wheaty after all.
I haven’t listened to Motorhead for many years and have never knowingly heard any Angelwitch.
Apparently they inform me the purchases allow them to build more things in Roblox/Minecraft.
Perhaps I should insist they build a Motorhead Temple next time!
All you have to do is press play, and you have now knowingly listened to Angel Witch
If that is the best they offered I believe I have missed nothing from this NWOBHM byway.
I thought you were the resident NWOBHM expert!
No, that is Sour Crout!
Mostly I’m ordering music from UK online, last three packages:
From Discogs (same seller)
– Steve Earle “Townes: The basics” lp
– Lee Perry and Friends “Public jestering” lp
From Juno
– Miles Davis “In a silent way” lp
– 6 String drag “High hat – 20th anniv. reissue” lp
– Lloyd Miller and The Mike Johnson Quartet “Jazz at the University of Utah” lp
From Norman
– Liza Anne “Fine but dying” lp
– Jack White “Boarding house reach” lp
– The Damned “Evil Spirits” lp
1. Supercars Top Trumps
2. Coffee capsules for the Nespresso machine (not Nespresso brand ones)
3. Shoe deoderisng spray.
2. is madness. You’ll be putting ordinary leisure trousers in the Executive Trouser Press next.
On the plus side, the coffee performs OK.
You and I seem to have memorised the same F+L routines Moose.
20p each instead of 33p. And they taste nice and, importantly, don’t get stuck.
Nobody knows yet if they will deliver on these claims, but I would be failing in my duty to my employer if I didn’t mention these bad boys:
https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/food-and-drink/eden-project-takes-on-nespresso-with-worlds-first-eco-friendly-coffee-pods/
Most capsules end up in landfill – 200 million of them a year in UK alone. Here endeth the lesson.
@leedsboy
Top Trumps..(no sniggering now). Flipping good fun they were back in the day. Presume there’s a load available online? I used to have a great set of German Car Top Trumps….4 Audis, 4 Mercs, 4 VWs, 4 BMWs, 4 Porsches. Prayed I dealt myself the 911 Turbo!
There are lots available. Still love the car ones the most though. I had Rally Cars as a lad. The Opel Wartburg was the stinker in the pack.
Worse than the underpowered Renault 4?
The car top trumps allowed you, at school, to say (and snigger) the name of the engine which powered the Mazda
‘Now let’s go onto something ruder – Wankel Rotary Engine’.
I so wanted an NSU Ro80 car. Wonderful looking thing. The owners used to wave at each other, using various numbers of fingers to show how many engines they’d had. One, two, three. . .
Point of order: Wartburg was E German (my Marxist uncle had one, and boy was it a krapwagen. Opel was W German, part of GM.
Was it an Opel? I have this dim recollection that it was an Opel but it could have just been a Wartburg.
The Porsche 928. A bit like an underwhelming follow up to a favourite album by your favourite band.
1. Forever Changes 50th Anniversary set from the tax dodgers.
2. Star Wars 2 blu ray disc (disc only) via ebay for £4.99 – my son borrowed the multi blu-ray set ages ago and lost the damn thing. Lucky find.
3. Surgery revovery kit from prostate cancer uk….I haven’t mentioned it here, but I have been diagosed with the flippin’ disease and will be having it removed soon. I’ll be fine, not life threatening, but a shaker that’s for sure.
Good luck Nigel.
All best wishes for a speedy recovery Nigel.
All the best, Nigel. If they are offering surgery that’s a good sign.
Best wishes Nigel, glad it’s so treatable.
The mind boggles about a “surgery recovery kit from prostate cancer”… it could either be a large soft thing on which to park one’s sore bits, or maybe a gift pack of king-sized Rizlas and an ounce of the finest Lebanese Red…
Whatever it is in which you’ve invested, may it bring you a soothing and complete recovery!
Best wishes Nigel x
All the very best. You will be fine.
Jeez feller good luck with that! Give the recovery kit a pounding!
Best wishes, Nigel.
Blue pills and some tena pants, I fear, to begin with but, in good hands, only to begin with. All the best.
All the best Nigel.
What they said. Sending good vibes for a speedy recovery.
Good luck with no.3.
Best of luck, old bean. At least you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy numbers 1 & 2 during your recuperation.
Gosh!
Best wishes from a near namesake for a skilful surgeon and a swift recovery, @NigelT!
Best of luck with the op.
Best wishes, Nigel.
Sorry to hear that – best wishes for the op
What they said, Nigel.
A mate just had “the op” bit of a shocker the fist two weeks so far but he has been promised things will settle down and better than just hoping it will go away.
The fist two weeks…my doctor is content with just a finger.
Men of a certain age, keep having it checked!
Rootin’ for you Nigel.
Blimey – thanks for the lovely comments above. I’m assured I will be OK, but will be a bit of a rum few weeks I think.
I’m on a mission to spread the word about getting checked out if you guys have any symptoms you are worried about – happy to help if you want to PM me.
all the best, Mr T.
All the best for the op and a speedy recovery.
Good luck Nigel.
Fillin’ in a few gaps:
“Back in ’72” by Bob Seger on CD
“Night Moves” by Bob Seger on CD
“E.S.P.” by Miles Davis on CD
ESP is great, you won’t be disappointed. Hankie Herbcock is on particularly good form.
A book
Some Lego
Some -pills
Some technology bits and bobs:
A Raspberry Pi Zero (it’s the tiny sub-£10 one with fewer ports)
A PiBow case for the above.
A similar PiBow case for my existing Raspberry Pi 3 / IQAudio DAC+ audio server.
What software/OS are you running on that last item @JQW?
I’ve been trying out Volumio but had a BIG problem with the last update refusing to recognise my NAS actually existed. Went back to an earlier version in the end.
I’m running piCorePlayer – version 3.5.0 appeared in the last fortnight, adding Wireless Access Point support. It acts as a Squeezebox server, and hence you can add additional client devices to it to make it multi-room. I currently use the Squeezer app on an old Android phone as a remote.
I tried Volumio but didn’t get on with it. It ignored all of the sort order tags I’d added to my library and was awful at handling multiple artist compilation albums. It also insisted on download album art instead of using the ones embedded in my files, which meant that I got a few wrong ones and many blanks.
Yes, I’m not happy with Volumio. Very, very basic compared to the Windows software I’ve been using on my music laptop and flaky as fuck. My initial aim was to retire my No. 2 laptop (too much fan noise) and play into my hifi amp from the Rpi/IQAudio card using some suitable software or other to replace my MediaMonkey library, running from a 4TB Raspberry Pi NAS, which has worked flawlessly right from the start.
PiCorePlayer looks like it needs a bit of serious tinkering in Bash to make it work. Or am I wrong? Not used to command line stuff anymore since playing around in AmigaDOS many years ago.
You don’t need to do anything in bash unless you’re doing something really odd with obscure hardware such as a USB DAC or a custom remote control. I’ve never needed to, and I’ve installed it many times.
Simply burn the image to an SD card and boot up, and then configure via the Ethernet port. If you don’t have Ethernet to hand, you can set up the WiFi by creating a specific file on the SD card with WiFi details prior to the initial boot. Then simply choose the various options, including the one to install LMS. You need to have the device connected to the internet during installation as it pulls down the relevant packages from a central repository.
The Vaccines new album (Combat Sports)
Manic Street Preachers (pre-Order)
Miller and Carter Vouchers
Happy End on DVD.
A set of Harris paint brushes.
A watch. An impressive 4 days to get from Los Angeles across the US of A and the Atlantic to the UK…. and then 10 days sitting in the Parcelfarce depot at Coventry going through customs. Still not delivered. Words fail me.
Job lot of t-shirts in the Man City shop (no jokes please) for various birthdays
Replacement dishwasher cutlery basket
French DVD (TRy not to Die Hard) for son’s birthday
A Dremel 4000.
A Dremel grout-removal tool, with one 1.6mm bit and one 3.2mm bit.
Two more grout-removal bits.
Replacement tubes from those nice people at Watford Valves.
James Cagney box set.
Hollywood Brats double CD.
The tubes have improved the sound of my amp…..the Brats CD has reduced it, still good though.
A Hiscox Liteflite case for my es175;
some aromatherapy oils and stones for Mme. Stoke;
and a John Coltrane CD…..
yeah @fitterstoke – but which Coltrane album ?
If it’s “Ascension”, then you’re in for a pretty noisy time!
I’m secretly hoping it’s Sun Ship.
What? Ascension makes Sun Ship sound like The Monkees!
Parrrrp!
Hi @Junior-Wells et al….
It was Interstellar Space….
Brilliant choice! Kind of halfway between Sun Ship and Ascension
Parrrrp!
Haven’t listened to it yet….today was not the day….but looking forward to it….
“This is not the time, Cato!!”
Most recent first:
A book – Tim Moore’s The Cyclist Who Went Out In The Cold. It should be here on Saturday;
A 1000ml bottle of Flaxseed oil. (Medicinal.);
A guitar – 40 year old Burny Les Paul, which some numpty dropped on its headstock somewhere between Moscow and here. The break has been fixed, the refret done, the new nut’s being cut (possibly as I type, depending on whether baby Leo went to bed on time). Soon it too will be with me. Again.
1. Case for Mrs.T’s tablet
2. “Dog soldiers” by Robert Stone which was referenced in the Mojo Steely Dan special in the same breath as “The Royal Scam” in its capturing of late 70s paranoia, so obviously I had to read it. Looks great.
3. Last night I impulse bought the Soundtoys Echo Boy delay plug in which looks el bol though I haven’t had chance to try it. $49 in the sale down from $199.
The restraint you’re all showing is mind-boggling to me…I buy everything in bulk, so:
1. A gigantic pile of CDs and LPs.
2. A gigantic pile of books.
3. Not enough books? Let’s buy some more then!
I’ve always been a “more is more” kinda gal. 🙂
‘A more is more kinda gal’. That’s my favourite kind…
Lots of daffs for Mrs Path’s 60th. (Lots…….)
(I got her a present too, but not online)
Hips ‘n’ Makers by Kristin Hersh on cd ( I used to have it on a cassette recorded from the record library)
Calmer by Lou Dalgleish on cd (aka Mrs Weston King and his foil in My Darling Clementine)
I tend toward Amazon Market Place and Discogs these days, where th ep&p is often more than th price of the product.
Last three online purchases were:
A pair of serving spoons
Kindle deal of the day download (Uncommon People by David Hepworth)
A bundle of electronic goodies (bluetooth headphones for the Mrs, a bluetooth transmitter for me, and a 1/4″ to 3.5mm adapter so I can plug it into the amp and listen to the TV on bluetooth. I probably have one knocking about somewhere, but it was only £1.89)
Not as exciting as my last few offline purchases (motorbike for the boy, a pair of 24″ monitors for me and a Henry hoover. And there goes my annual bonus until the boy gets round to paying me back)
1. A bundle of M&S schmutter to my daughter’s to await my arrival on MONDAY. Including some very suave jimjams, I might add.
2. A 4TB portable HDD to transport my digital life between continents.
3. A new case for my phone.
Monday?! Look out for all us AWers waiting on the tarmac to greet you, Beatlemania-style.
See you all at 05:55, then!
Well alright, Amen Cornermania.
It’ll be like Beatlemania, but then only Jimmie Nichol gets off the plane
You could all line the streets of Leyton a couple of hours later if you like.
Is this the permanent relocation you talked about Mike? Return of the Prodigal Dad?
Yep…but not permanent, I need to spend 4 months a year in Oz or my permanent residency visa disappears. So back for Oct/Nov, which will give me 5 months in the bank, 4 months next year, and so on. My life is weird.
Sky 1
Sky 2
A Little Potty
You must be, buying those Sky albums.
Due to being away with work next week I’ve held off on a Brewdog order (just can’t get Jackhammer in the shops), some wine and a couple of shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt (they are just £19.95 now … who would have thought it).
The actual purchases have been
* Tickets for “All Or Nothing” musical
* Kindle edition of “Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down” by Allan Jones (the price finally dropped to £4.70
* Home and contents insurance
For many years, I pronounced Tyrwhitt as “TERR-WITT”.
Rather embarrassing when I finally found out the correct pronunciation.
I had a similar issue with “Taoiseach”.
Bless you.
So…it’s not Terwitt then?
I keep getting sent catalogues by them, right persistent Tyrwhitts they are.
Re: “So…it’s not Terwitt then?”
No, amazingly, it is in fact “Tirritt”.
Now … how do I pronounce “Cholmondeley” again?
It’s Reginald Magdalene!
Good shirts, once you resist the early offers and keep yer hackles high
Nah. They fray very easily.
Again, wayyyy too much info, dude.
Tickets yesterday:
Graham Nash at the Lowry in July
A new show about Dusty Springfield again at the Lowry.
Of Mice and Men at the Opera House next week ( Pension rate for the very first time ! )
You realise that OMAM will probably full of maungy GCSE students?
1. 20 hellebores plants assorted
2. Aussie Rules reserved seating Hawthorn V Richmond. Mrs Wells is a Richmond supporter. Me, I think it is a pity there can be only one loser.
3. Tickets to Sun Ra Arkestra and Branford Marsalis – separate concerts but part of same transaction.
What an intriguing pretext.
1. A Saab 93 estate to cart about my wife’s (effing) giant Weimaraner
2. A kitchen tap mixer nozzle – the water now goes into the sink instead of the walls and floor as well.
3 An extendable reflector holder.
Not very rock’n’roll, but when extended the reflector holder becomes my air guitar when checking the success of my morning ablutions.
Rock on Afterworders.
Re 1. – How big? Our Weimaraner cross (GSP#) was 33 Kilos and in good shape. We managed with a Volvo V60* until we acquired dog 2. Who now looks a bit lost on his own in the back of our VW Passat estate.
(# GSP – German Shorthaired Pointer.)
(* The Volvo V60 looks like an estate but the boot isn’t that big.)
How big? The dog or the extendable reflector holder?
If you mean the dog I’ve got no idea what it weighs. I wouldn’t even think about trying to lift the sodding thing. But I’m delighted you asked as it prompted me to go to the garage, find my tape measure and see what height it actually is.
When stood still for long enough and not snarling at me it measures 35” from the floor to the top of its head. (Head of the dog MiniB. Do calm down and put thoughts of extendable reflector holders out of your mind).
BTW, said dog was the surprise guest on the Guitarcast.
Listening to Guitarcast now.
35″? Probably about the same as our recently departed senior dog.
Wow. The same.
Shirley that is really big even for a large breed?
35″ is a guesstimate – he had a good few inches on dog 2, who’s around 31″ to the top of his head and just over 25 kilos, but in eleven years we never measured dog 1’s height. Regular weight checks at the vet’s though. We were better at controling his weight than our own.
I’m confused and a little intrigued by no. 3. What’ on earth’s an extendable reflector holder, and why is it in your bathroom?
…oh dear. Do you really want to know?
Yes. And at the same time no.
A replacment SSD drive for my Laptop. It doesn’t work – error code 50 which seems to cover anything Apple can’t /can’t be srsed to fix. I now have two extra eternal SSD drives in perfect working order.
The 1995 Blue Guide to England
Tickets for Ange Hardy at The Place, Bedford. She’s wonderful and is still on the road so if you get a chance to see her, Go!
1. Home brew kit – London Pride recipe since you ask
2. DVD of BBC series of Middlemarch for Mrs BB as she’s just finished the book
3. A case of wine on one of those irresistible offers in the Sunday papers which had Mrs BB rolling her eyes. ‘But I got you ‘Middlemarch’,’ I said…
Plus assorted tickets for various shows
“London Pride has been handed down to us…”
Beer that makes you drop your aitches and walk about with your elbows sticking out. Stroik a loight, Meery Poppinsh!
1. Taylor’s of Harrogate Yorkshire Tea teabags.
2. Shoe laces
3. Nick Lowe’s new EP ‘Tokyo Bay’
Why would you bother buying shoe laces online?
He had broken the lace on his outdoor shoes.
I can relate to that. I only have three pairs of shoes: one for work, one for mud and one for posh.
Still, I’d have managed to make it to the village cobblers if I’d broken the laces.
Village cobblers… a nickname for The Archers.
The last volume of the comic series “Secret Six” by Gail Simon and Dale Eaglesham. The series isn’t a million miles from the Suicide Squad concept as it’s a team of “villains” trying vaguely to do the right thing, but they’re all a bit C-list (Catman for instance was a joke character before Simone begged DC to let her use him, and basically transformed him into Tarzan) and aren’t part of some shadowy government organisation.
A book (“In Love With These Times”) by Roger Shepherd telling how he founded the marvellous Flying Nun record label in New Zealand. Really looking forward to reading this when I finish my current book.
Mrs D is a self-confessed terrible passenger in the car (gets bored within about ten seconds and then insists on changing every single setting before settling down to get increasingly twitchy and fidgety until I hand back control and/or agree to listen to “Absolute Eighties” on the radio rather than the carefully constructed playlist of stuff I *know* she likes but suddenly doesn’t want to hear) so as we have a five hour+ trip in a couple of weeks I bought her a “Good Dogs” adult colouring book (with coloured pencils!) as a semi-joke to keep her amused.
I *think* she’d see the funny side…
@deviant808
I really can’t believe there’s a book on Flying Nun. Used to be my fave label. Had a Flying Nun mug once!
Ordered the book via the tax dodgers .
A bunch of MiniDiscs, including a dozen 60s.
A bunch of CDs, including Springsteen’s Goad, which I like a lot, finding he should relax and stop shouting more often.
A vinyl copy of Petra Haden “Sings The Who Sell Out”. Silly and dead serious in equal measure, love it (in small doses).
