OK, this is to all the budding superstars out there, and i know there are a few, as well as some bona fide ones as well. As some may know, I have a bit of a pash for cover versions, collecting them and writing about them, over on https://www.covermesongs.com/author/seurasog1. Well, rather than this being any self-promotion, I need a favour. I have been struggling with an all-covers of Armed Forces for six months now, mainly as there is nowhere a cover of the above track. Or, shall we say, a decent one: Erich Sellheim, a german Costello fan seems to have done translated into german covers of nearly every Costello song, and I have already used him, if reluctantly, for another song on the album.
So, here’s the deal, and I don’t care what the style or genre is, electronica, rockabilly, prog or acoustic, reggae or drenched in pedal steel, let me have a file. DM me, or, for the brave, post a link here. I can’t guarantee any cash, but be assures of kudos aplenty. Or, at least, my thanks. I will then tunes to tube it and make you able to bask in your own glory.
Please?
Or maybe you know where I can find one, having exhausted spotify, youtube, bandcamp, soundcloud and the web in general.
(It isn’t one of Costello’s finest, is it.)

Don’t offer me James H Cortland, either.
D’ya think we have bona fide superstars on here? It would be nice to think that.
There are several professional or semi-professional musicians who put out well received product both here and elsewhere (and who are likely insulted by my owt for nowt request.) I was hoping it might attract a someone who dabbles and likes a challenge. But…..
Not going so well yet, eh? Don’t think I’ll be feasting on the CORSAIR with this post. Unless you can do me a drum and voice version?
Mmm I think I have an idea for this not especially good song. Give me a few days.

Any use? The album’s yours for about a fiver via Discogs.
But it isn’t the Costello song, is it? It was in my research stages, along with an american band, called, confusingly, Mood For Moderns.
But, watch this space, I have an AW world exclusive on its way. (Well, near exclusive, as it’s already on youtube, c/o the performer!!)
I wondered if that might be the case – the phrase ‘moods for moderns’ has a much older origination that the EC song, so it was possible that this was just another nod of the hat to that source.
Drumroll……….
Ladeez an gennelmen, pray rise for the @Twang, who has responded with grace and aplomb to the challenge, producing this gem of a rendition. I think it surpasses the youhadtobethere noo wave charm of the original by a country mile, evoking memories in my ear of Elvis’s producer, Nick Lowe’s old band, The Brinsley Schwarz, maybe with added Lew Lewis on harp. (It was always Lew Lewis on harp in the olden days of pubrock, as Lee Brilleaux was strictly Feelgood.)
Aw shucks thanks Retro. I just liberated it from NW tropes back into the rock and roll it always wanted to be!
Cracking stuff. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the original!
Ain’t it!
And here’s the piece that showcases our local talent:
