After the January prices outage I’ve kept the list under review, and these appear to be stable discounts…so at 99p until the end of February here are your 99p Kindle deals.
NON-FICTION
Louise Wener – Just For One Day. The Inbetweener hitmaker and novelist recalls her life as a B-grade Britpop legend.
Rachel Deloache – My Friend Anna. Loved the podcast on the Fake Heiress © this is her rich friend’s side of the story
Pete Paphides – Broken Greek – much loved pop writer’s backstory
Jon Ronson – The Psychopath Test – a journey through the madness backstory
SCIFI
Sue Burke – Semiosis – have this on my to-read list.
Peter F Hamilton – Pandora’s Star. If you are wondering where to start with Hamilton this is less daunting (slightly) than the Nights Dawn trilogy, being one of two. The world of Ozzie and Nigel, the relentless Paula and the truly alien MorningLightMountain may be my favourite of his.
Arkady Martine – A Memory of Empire – big award-winner, have this on my to read list.
FICTION
Doris Lessing – The Golden Notebook. Forbidding. Would appreciate someone pitching on its behalf.
Michael Chabon – Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. Can recommend this unreservedly, an epic retelling the American century through the comics book industry.
THRILLERS
Philip Kerr – Prague Fatale – another Bernie Gunther, set in 1941.

I would say a slimish list from the categories I look for, but I can recommend unreservedly Kavalier and Clay and (for the scifi friendly) Pandora’s Star.
Mike_H says
Kavalier and Clay should be on everyone’s to-read list. A truly great book.
Any of the late Philip Kerr’s Bernie Gunther stories is a good read for detective fiction addicts. I’m currently about 90% through his second-from-last “Greeks Bearing Gifts”. In fact I’ve only just put it down to take a peek in here. Still a couple of the older ones and the final one “Metropolis” before I bid ol’ Bernie “Auf Wiedersehen”.

Broken Greek is a minor masterpiece. Great fun and very funny.
Black Type says
Absolutely.

It’s funny, I think I bought it last time it was 99p, but cannot find any evidence of that or see it on any of my Kindles. Weird. Guess at that price I can take the plunge again.

And thanks @moseleymoles

‘Battle Sight Zero’ by AW beloved Gerald Seymour is also available
As is ‘No Picnic on Mount Kenya’. Italian POW’s in Africa escape simply to climb a mountain. And then return to the camp. I think.
I’ve bought it anyway.
Kid Dynamite says
A Memory Called Empire is decent, without perhaps quite meriting all the praise it got, but I’ve just finished the sequel, A Desolation Called Peace, and that is outstandingly good.
moseleymoles says
Mmm feel that way about Becky Chambers The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, though her novella To Be Taught If Fortunate is outstanding (a previous 99p deal).
Kid Dynamite says
I like Becky Chambers’ books. They’re just nice, without being cloying or twee.
Kid Dynamite says
A couple of other recommendations from the 99p bin
Dominion by CJ Sansom is a very good “what if Hitler won?” novel
The Ember Blade by Chris Wooding will satisfy fans of epic fantasy (and it’s massive, so great value for less than a quid)
All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is an excellent and multi-award winning WWII novel of occupied Europe
Even more WWII in Lissa Evans’ Their Finest, about a female scriptwriter trying to make a propaganda movie for the Home Front
Black Type says
I had to ‘do’ The Golden Notebook at Poly in the early 80s. Obviously a Very Important Novel for the burgeoning feminist movement of the 70s, but I found it narratively impenetrable. To be fair, I did really enjoy one of her later novels, The Good Terrorist.
Moose the Mooche says
….”narratively impenetrable”… yes, the frustrations of undergraduate life.
paulwright says
I think “the good terrorist” is a great book for understanding how some dangerous people think.
Jaygee says
You don’t need to read a book to understand that – just spend half an hour or so here!
Jaygee says
While have only read his shamefully under-appreciated series of Sean Duffy books about an RC cop in the largely prodded RUC in 80s Norn Iron – took a punt on Aidan McKinty’s The Chain at 99p. All named after lines from Tom Waits’s songs, the SD books are well worth checking out,btw

Hi @mosselymoles, you`ve recommended several goods books I`ve enjoyed reading but the Arkady Martine – A Memory of Empire book I found a bit hard going and gave up with. That`s unusual for me I am normally I`ve started so I`ll damn well finish it type of reader.
Edit: I`ve just seen @Kid-Dynamite`s comments about the bo0ok and the sequel maybe I`ll give it another go.
