Sparks have been trying to make a movie musical for decades. Getting close with A Tim Burton film in the 90s. But their dream as now come true and they are opening the Cannes film festival in July. Amazon have bought the streaming rights. Here’s the first trailer.

The Sparks documentary also arrives this summer. Directed by Edgar Wright it’s been picked up for wide distribution by focus features. In the doc they meet up with their first producer Todd Rungren after 50 years. They must have got on well because this surprise one off single just appeared. https://youtu.be/eVxnnyvpqr0
I’d like Sparks to be in a film – a road movie. They’ve got something weird in the trunk like in Repo Man and Pulp Fiction and have to fight zombies / cowboys / aliens on their trip across the desert, never breaking a sweat until they hit a bar in a nowhere town and get up during karaoke to reveal their true identity…
Ron driving, obvs. Russ spends literally the whole movie trying and failing to get the cigarette lighter to work.
Sounds like good premise though shouldn’t it be the other way round? I thought Russell was the tech guy these days.
Need to revisit their last album. What a strange, fabulous band they are!
Perfume is still my favourite of theirs.
That is excellent news.
The sad saga of the film based on popular manga, Mai the Psychic Girl, dates all the way back to the late 80s. What a disappointment that must have been.

The Mael Brothers’ The seduction of Ingmar Bergman did better.
A Swedish radio show
and a brief stage show.
I am impressed that Leo Carax has directed Anette. The Lovers of Pont-Neuf Hitmaker has an impressive back catalogue..
The film company will ensure that the publicity is done properly, t des sound very exciting.
Here’s the single that they did with Todd Rundgren: Your fandango.
(The link got lost in the OP, I think).
That song is pretty much quintessential Sparks!
