A 4 disc Nebraska set is apparently slated for release in October, 3 CDs and a Blu-ray. The Blu-ray content is likely a specially filmed appearance of him playing the album in full this year. For the CDs we could be getting a remastered album, a disc of outtakes and “Electric Nebraska” if it exists. Maybe live E St band performances of Nebraska tracks could also be included

Hooray
My favourite Springsteen album
I hope it materialises
Huzzah!
My only Springsteen album…
I’m afraid I’m Bruced-out. No more, please, not for another ten years at least, by which time we’ll just be grateful to hear stuff that hasn’t been assembled by a f*cking algorithm.
Beginning to make Neil Young look like something of a lollygagger
Wollocks
Well, I’m in. Let’s hope it’s a bit more affordable than Tracks II which is still retailing for £33 per CD.
I wouldn’t bet on it, but as is the case with all such sets you have to take into account the development costs of tracking down the best recordings, mastering them, paying all the participants etc. Plus calculating per CD or LP is leaving out the book etc, and I am sure there will be another one in this set. Sony paid him an estimated $500m for his catalog and it looks like they want some return on that. You can always download or stream the tracks more cheaply if you want the music only which is what I did for Tracks II
And surely this is all rather time limited – they have to make their money NOW. I’m not sure my 23 year old have ever heard of Bruce. (they HAVE heard of the Beatles). Soon us olds will be gone, or broke (or both) so Sony need to move quick.
But to be fair, my daughter was desparate to get tickets to see Renee Rapp. Who?
Apparently big enough to sell out Wembly twice (and Manchester). Its a generational thing.
The packaging on tracks 2 for the cd version is fucking awful. The worst I have seen for a long time
I would want to look before buying tracks 3 and I frankly don’t need another book which I will look at once maybe twice.
The music was great though.
Of more interest is The Fabulous Thunderbirds Jimmy Vaughan years although that too is taking the piss – £75 for 4 cds (and a book)
I saw an unboxing for the vinyl set and that looked really nice, so it appears the CD box was an afterthought. Pricing is (unusually these days) similar too.
For me, apart from try before you buy, things like this and Tracks 2 is what subscribing to Tidal is for.
I point again to the Tull sets. For about 50 quid you get 3 or 4 excellent disks – usually a fine live gig, contemporary unreleased material, a remix, a remaster, thingummy surround 7.1 etc etc and a book of such detail it takes days to read. Of course you do have to like the Tull.
It was all going so well until that last sentence…
True. If they can do it etc…
You can get some of them for a lot less than £50
Indeed you can.
I’ve been on a bit of a Tull kick recently – these sets have been impressing me all over again!
Good lad.
See also XTC (when they can find the master tapes)
Anyway, here’s a radically different version of Open All Night
Sod Electric Nebraska, I want Fun Nebraska
Featuring the hit singles Bouncy Castle On The Hill, Ice Cream All Night, Reason To Belieb, Johnny 69, Bumper Cars and My Father’s Funhouse.
And, for me, the definitive version of one of his greatest songs. Atlantic City
Great version. I like this one too.
Yes, I like that one too even if it is the “other” band
True though Shayne Fontayne is superb.
Here’s a list of the original “Nebraska” songs that Springsteen sent to manager Jon Landau after his initial writing/recording sessions. A CD of this material (with relevant alternate takes) could be interesting.
1 Bye Bye Johnny
2 Starkweather/Nebraska
3 Atlantic City
4 Mansion on the Hill
5 Born in the USA
6 Johnny 99
7 Downbound Train
8 Losin’ Kind
9 State Trooper
10 Used Cars
11 Wanda (Open All Night)
12 The Child Bride
13 Pink Cadillac
14 Highway Patrolman
15 Reason to Believe
I thought Child Bride was on the Unsatisfied Heart bootleg but I’ve just had a look and it isn’t. Sure I’ve heard it though, it’s an early version of Working On The Highway with a very different feel.
Yes
Perhaps an official/equivalent version of Alone In Colt’s Neck as part of the set?
