              • Chiz – I don’t think you’re quite understanding even the very basics of what we’re doing here. Lord knows we’ve given you every chance, but there remains a fundamental – what are the young people saying? – disconnect between you and the Wordle Project. And to be frank it’s starting to create some problems here. Morale, team building … we kept you on because, well, there was some sympathy for you when you came on board. Some of the old ‘uns remembered when you were quite the “young rebel” – brilliant but wayward, that kind of thing. But unhappily the brilliance – too strong a word – has become rather tarnished. There’s a general feeling that you’ll never be happy here, and your unhappiness is spreading to others. We – and I speak not only for the Wordle subset of this lively on-line community, but Western Culture in general – the whole civilised world – feel it’s time for you to move on. With our very best wishes, and absolutely no hard feelings! Perhaps you might try the Worldle thread? Or start your own! Good luck!

                • See, obviously there an O and and R in the first line, and you know where I placed them. It’s unlikely I used a letter twice in the start word, which rules out OTTER and OFFER. So then it’s quite easy to guess. See how much fun Reverse Wordle can be?

                  • Ah! Still here, Chiz? Won’t get any easier, I’m afraid. Man up, there’s a good chap. Pastures new and all that! Oh – Tracy has put your stuff in a box, in reception. Never saw so many Happy Meal toys, apparently …

                    • So assuming no double letter in the start word you can also rule out ODDER, OCCUR, ORDER and ODOUR. And you know from your own research that it doesn’t have a Y,A or L in it, so that rules out OLDER and OGLER… are we nearly there yet?

                    • (covertly, into phone) Security? Can you send a man up to my office? I think one will be more than enough … yes, him again I’m afraid … no, he seems happy enough – oblivious … yes, right away, please …

                    • So here’s where we have to leave deduction behind and venture into judgement calls. Would chiz dare to include a long-odds ‘W’ in line one? If no, then rule out OWNER. Is he clever enough to think of the vowel-tastic OUTER? Probably not, so that’s out. He’d like that ‘T’ though, a very reliable consonant. So what other options are there?

                    • Chiz? Afraid I have to leave you on your own – meetings, meetings! Help yourself to … er … paperclips … *shakes head and leaves, closing door quietly behind him*

    If I hit all greys with my first line (nearly always STARE), a second line of BOUND is often very useful (one for chiz).
