and other quaint non-existent traditions.
Inexplicably, Royal Hoylake wouldn’t deign to extend an invitation to their competition tees, so we are stuck with Altrincham Municipal.
I’ve set this up in time for the early birds in NZ, but note that the first hole that will count will be no.1047.
Tricky little bugger. Bogey to finish one under

Quelle surprise!
Well played Leedsboy.
Does this mean we have to play extra holes or do we share the trophy?
Iβm all about the sharing! Well played sir. Been a good tournament again.
Excellent. You have it first as I’m in Spain at the moment. You can pass it on when I get back next weekend.
Enjoy Spain.
Thanks. All good so far. Just hoping for a couple of hours of rain this afternoon while Bolton are in the play-off final.
Well hereβs hoping for a shared success in play off finals as well. Fingers crossed for the Wanderers. Teams that finish 3rd have god on their side!
Fingers crossed

The Wordle Bot said the same thing for every line of mine today – “Great choice, unlucky”. Story of my Wordle life….
Will a spatula do?
Certainly not. The Real Spoony, please
What a stinker of a round. I used to be a contender, ya know

Birdie to finish…
Well, a tough round for many of us. In summary, I think we are all agreed that we don’t approve of double letters and that Y isn’t actually a letter at all.
Congratulations to Leedsboy and Steve Walsh in honourably sharing the ..er.. honours, though commiserations to Steve that Bolton still languish in Div 1.
The final scores on the doors as follows:
6 under Leedsboy Steve Walsh
2 under Paul Hewston
1 under Steve T mikethep
par Max the Dog
1 over me
3 over fortuneight
4 over Plumb1909 Jim Chiz
6 over Black Celebration Lodestone of Wrongness
Yes, which means that Spoony passes to
7 over Clive, who had an absolutely rotten last 4 holes and will doubtless be glad to see the back of May.
I am not going to go full Statto on you, but one that is worthy of comment. Steve Walsh had six successive birdies, whose consistency proves, I think, that it’s not about luck.
So, to whom am I passing the baton for June?
If you can organise a team of Olympic athletes to bring the wooden spoon to Australia, I’m happy to look after it for June.
It’s on its way.
My back 9 was a disaster. Reminded me of the time when I had an influencer caddie and it all went wrong. Itβs not worth it, Lodey. Thanks @thecheshirecat for an enjoyable tournament.
In other news, with the phrase ‘gateway drug’ floating in the air, I have now started doing Octordle.
Who is this charlatan called Clive?? I demand an immediate recount immediately! Don’t worry Spoony, see you soon.
Not sure how I could be so bad without trying to be bad β¦ ah well the only way is up
Well done fellas.
Great tournament, CC
I hope @diffugere_nives will rejoin us. There was someone last week who wanted to join but didn’t know how to post results. Does anybody know who it was? Earlier comments have disappeared.
I got confused about that too, but if you look below, there’s a link to ‘Older Comments’. Evidently, we’ve outstayed our welcome and have maxed out the size of thread. Was it @thecalifornian struggling to post?
Twang also appeared briefly.
It was indeed @the-californian
Ah, yes: I can help bolster the mid- to low- table scores. Completely forgot this one (obvs).
Thanks to @thecheshirecat for the excellent work this month. Oh, and I also do Octordle, and Quordle too.
Many thanks to @thecheshirecat for a fine job. Do you get an outsize hamper when the thread maxes out?
And thanks everyone for a fun tournament.
The words ‘outsize’ and ‘hamper’ sound like happy bedfellows to me.
The other weird thing is that it no longer gives us the option of just going straight to new comments, once it’s got this big. I have never experienced this before; strangely, my Breton folk threads don’t generate as much heat!
Let’s face it, “outsize hamper” is synonymous with “light snack” for some folk. Not pointing any fingers you understand.
Thanks for organising, Chez
@the-californian please join us for the next pulsating go-round on June 1.
It was indeed I who said I had difficulties with the downloading @mikethep
My initial reason for making contact was to confirm that I had scored a ‘hole in one’.. I think it was number 1054 on 8th May. I have just spent the last 20 mins learning how to use imgur and, hopefully, the picture of my fine effort will have appeared above. So, I might just join in for the June tournament.
Excellent!
Bravo @thecheshirecat for superb stewardship. Great fun tournament. See you in June!
You’re all very welcome. The next time I’ve got the first 18 days of the month in reasonable stability would be …. possibly November.
Thanks for organizing CC.
Happy to do some stewarding if needed. I could not approach the standards of those who have gone before but can fill in if they’re busy.
I, or one, am indeed busy in June so @steve-walsh, over to you in a few days time?
Righto. It’ll be a pleasure.
