I subscribe to the NYT (£20 a year and it includes The Athletic, the NYT Games app and and fab food app). There are a lot of Wordle articles. And the lady you are thinking of is Tracy Bennett.
There is a thing called the Wheel of Fortune letters – R S T L N and E. These are the most common and so should be in your opening and second choices. The rest is down to you.
That, for me, is the sound of the joy of the game being sucked away. Each to his own, no criticism implied. I’d rather have a puzzling fiver than today’s fast three but that’s why me and Spoonie are best of friends.
I used to have the cheapie NYT sub but after year two they wanted proper money. I already subscribe to too many papers and mags ( couldn’t get on with Readly )
I rather like Wordle as a combination of logic (probability and risk) with the creative elements of vocabulary and remembering that it is a US English game. Thats the fun for me. Guessing differently everyday is like buying a lottery ticket or betting on the numbers at roulette. Less fun.
We agree to disagree – nothing like roulette or lottery, it’s setting yourself a problem instead of using a formula that far more often than not works. However, it doesn’t help when I still make crap choices which I guess I would do no matter how I played Wordle.
I use my own secret formula, which is:
ARISE
COUNT
… then whatever fits.
I don’t play the “hard” version, neither do I blindfold myself or use the Greek alphabet. I play to win, me.
Must take you all of thirty seconds each morning (at least that’s what Mrs Sauce told me; she admires how long I last)
I’m certain Moose could have done better
yeah but if you use those words three times in a row during a thunderstorm you’ll summon up Dracula. If that happens, CROSS, STAKE and HEART are your next options.

Yes. ARISE or AROSE are my favoured openers. When I get to Quordle and Octordle, ADIEU followed by STORM does the trick.
For Quordle, I use IRONY and SAUCE as my two openers.

I go for TRAIN and CLOSE. If that doesn’t give me enough to make a likely guess at a word then DUMPY is next in an effort to keep the score down to 7.
