Come to that, as a Villa fan, I reckon Tim Sherwood is on thin ice.
My 2p: Jose has lost his magic and the Eva Carneiro incident has sunk him in more than one way. Sherwood on the other hand should be kept on place long term.
Musings on the byways of popular culture
Jose said the other day “There are no Untouchables” – I’m guessig he includes himself in that assessment, in which case he may not last til Christmas on current performance
(unless he has a stack of Polaroids of Roman Abromavich).
Tim Sherwood is on thin ice, but may well survive as he really hasn’t had too long (playing wise) to sort stuff out. I think he’s up to the job, seems a good guy and hope he can sort it out.
The one who should be really worried is Steve McClaren – many people hold him in him esteem as a coach, but doesn’t seem to cut it as a ‘Manager’ (it’s like he needs someone else with him taking care of business).
My original nomination for “First Out” was Claudio Ranieri – the start Leicester have had, he will probably be given the freedom of Walkers Crisps Factory.
Dick Eggnog looks to be edging towards the exit, and it looks like Steve Mc will be the first to be given the tin-tac.
Maclaren didn’t do a bad job at Boro – managed us to the only major trophy we’ve ever won and to a UEFA cup final.
What you don’t realise is that he’s still in the pay of Steve Gibson, and is doing as fine a job as a double agent as Kim Philby ever did…
I’m pretty sure Advocaat has already gone. I fear Brendan Rodgers will be next, regardless of what happens tomorrow. MacLaren has an impossible job. Newcastle are an absolute farce.
I bet Alan Pardew is laughing himself to sleep. Every night.
Jim – would you not prefer Ancelotti or Klopp?
Heart says Klopp, head says Ancelotti. Carlo is a proven top-drawer manager, who is as close to a known quantity as you can get, and he manages this while being likeable and respected.
However, Klopp is a bit of a maverick, and he’d understand the fan culture of a club like Liverpool much better. Plus he’s been openly flirting with us and slagging off The Sun, which has won him friends on Merseyside.
As I’m sure you’ve seen: Rodgers has been sacked.
Interesting to see what happens next. Klopp would be a dream, I’m sure. I’ve heard from colleagues in Germany that he’s regarded as nailed on for the Bayern job next summer, but stranger things have happened – he’d be great for you lot.
Derek Adams, on the other hand, is doing very nicely.
It’s making for an interesting and unpredictable season! Top four looks more open than ever, against all predictions. As a Spurs fan I’m absolutely gutted to see Chelsea heading for relegation….snigger…
I’m not a fan of Mourinho, but this is hardly an unprecedented event. He follows the same pattern at virtually every club – first year sorting things out and selling and buying, second year gets his guys in situ, constructs a barking mad fortress mentality and wins a ton, third year runs out of external enemies and starts to pick on his own players, who are all exhausted from having spent the preceding 24 months wearing tinfoil helmets.
PSG and then the Portugal job, which might finally mellow him a bit.
When he was at Inter, he left at the end of the second season, having just won the treble of the Italian league, cup and the Champions League. The next season Inter collapsed, and an Inter fan told me that it was because the players were “squeezed dry”.
Hard to have any sympathy for the man, or the club. A great track record but he conducts himself like a spoilt child far too many times. Bingo’s analysis above is pretty much spot on.
There are few sweeter sights in sport than a thwarted John Terry.s
I agree Gatz about John Terry, I can`t stand the bastard, a more obnoxious waste of space does not walk the planet in any shape or form.
Right Jose, has he ever been in this position before? I don`t think so. Aging players, busted egos, confidence ebbing away into the Championship. Thing is I like Jose but can he handle it* Given the chance I think so, but will that Russian thieving cu_ _ give him that chance?
First to go? Unless he already has, Dutch Dicky, as one Sunderland`s banner displayed at Old Trafford last
week, `Dick Out`!
*Chelsae
There is quite a list forming: Jose, Dick, Steve, Tim, Brendan. My money is on Dick, but it would be a good accummulator to have all 5 gone by Christmas.
Slippers, glass of wine, feet up, the season so far has been a joy to behold.
Especially looking forward to May, when, on the day Chelsea get their inevitable fourth place (bunting out, hire the open top bus), the football media, not forgetting Chelsea themselves, describe it as a remarkable achievement.
Just seen MOTD, and the 8 year old with the Phil Collins collection goes a rant about a Chelsea ‘penalty’ (panel’s unanimous verdict – dive, no penalty) and says of the two Southampton ‘penalties’…..’I prefer not to comment’!!
(panel’s unanimous verdict – two penalties).
What a w—–.
Hilarious.
Might get a new pair of slippers for next week.
Things are going to get better, comedy wise, with Jose. I`ve just seen MOTD (wife wanted the fecking dancing show on TV when we arrived home after a night out last night) and Chelski were fecking HAMMERED in the 2nd half, and should have been 3-1 down in the first . I`m going to have to revise my opinion of last night (after a few liquid refreshments), Abramasnitch was watching – it could be the Gulags for Jose.
Well it seems Dick has had enough and is out.
Good luck to him, he`s a decent man. Which throws down the welcome mat for Big Sam but I think even Sam Allardyce will have a struggle with the players he may inherit.
Hadn’t heard big Sam mentioned. Seemed to be mainly Dyche and Pearson in the frame…
Looks like Brendan Rogers could be added to that list now
When the news was announced earlier on Sky, Jamie Carragher’s reaction was refreshing – ‘we think we’re a big club but we’re not’. What he and Souness said about politics in the club should worry Liverpool fans.
But Thierry Henry’s view on it was also interesting – he feels the current owners are simply using the LFC brand.
I enjoyed Thierry’s reaction to the news:

I watched the highlights on MOTD last night. For all of Jose/Chelsea splitting hairs about certain decisions, as I saw it, Southampton were simply so much better.
For all the newsworthiness of Chelsea in a bad patch, not enough credit has been given to the Scummers. Great performance from them.
“Scummers” – are you a Pompey lad, Les?
Lived in Turktown (Gosport) for many years & old habits die hard.
yes, I lived in Fratton for four years or so. That was over a decade ago, but my instinctive reaction to any mention of Southampton FC
*ahem*
is to call them Scummers
So Rodgers has gone – must admit I thought it would be someone else first.
As far as Jose is concerned, I usually watch MOTD on catch-up in which case I always skip the interviews – with the notable exceptions of Mou and Van Gaal, since they can be relied upon to be entertaining.
I like Mourinho as a character that adds to the entertainment of the Prem. Shame to see him go if he did. The best thing about Rogers though was just his voice and accent. The content of what he actually said made him sound like a cautious middle-management drone.
I’m aware that Rodgers is lampooned as a David Brent character but I just don’t see it. I’m sure he’s spouted his fair share of management bollox but he’s hardly alone in that.
Sorry Malc, not trolling, but I have to disagree about Mourhino, he is not entertaining.
He is a spoilt brat.
I agree Jack, but like I say above he is an entertainment in himself. The villain of the pantomime.
Maybe he can keep giving weekly press conferences after the Russian has sacked him.
I’m with @bigjimbob on this – he may act the spoilt brat, but I don’t have to like him to find it entertaining.
Wish i’d put that bet on…
@bigjimbob as a West Brom fan I sincerely hope Tim Sherwood keeps the job long term.
Joking apart I think we are on course for an unprecedented number of managers being “relieved of their duties. I won’t be surprised to see Pulis, Sherwood, McClaren and Jose all leaving their jobs in the next few weeks or so.
Pulis hasn’t done what was expected of him at WBA, and this may prove to be his un-doing in these “Sack The Manager If He Loses 3 Games” situations the PL now seems to be.
The rock-solid defence is somewhat lacking (plus he let Lescott go), and there is no real speed to counter-attack.
Berahino and Rondon should be banging ’em in for fun (they have the ability) but there is no supply line.
It was said that there could be no North East representation on the Premier League if Newcastle & Sunderland are relegated.
Similarly, the Midlands representation could be lost if Villa and WBA fall down.
(Does Leicester count as “Midlands”?”)
East Midlands maybe? Conversely what a fine job is happening at Leicester, Watford and Palace.
Really impressed with the passion and spectacle of the Palace fans by the way. Good to see.
and Bournemouth. Playing some nice stuff. Smalltown club done good – and I wouldn’t be too surprised to see them survive for another year
Leicester seem to be picking up where they ended on a high last season and building on it (not sure it will last though).
Alan Pardew at Palace has proved to be a good coach and get the best out of his players. He did a good job at Reading, but started to lose it when his ambitions weren’t matched by the club. Palace have matched his ambition this time round with the signing of Cabaye.
Watford is a huge surprise, and I really wasn’t expecting anything – they seemed to occupy that Swindon / Bradford / Barnsley / Derby / Burnley position – getting to the Prem because they deserved it, but not set up to survive.
The bottom end of the table is not as predictable as I expected it to be (perm any 3 from 10). And the top 4 may get a couple of surprise entrants this year too.
