I stumbled onto the Afterword error 404 page just now, which lists all the authors and number of posts they (we) have contributed since April 2014.
The numbers are only accurate at the moment of sampling, of course, but I thought it might be of interest to a few other list fans/ navel gazers. The list is in the first comment.

duco01 says
This must refer to the number of threads that each of us has started, rather than the total number of posts that each of us has contributed.
I’ve only started 7 threads, as the list tells us, but I’ve posted thousands of times!
salwarpe says
Yes, you are right, @duco01 – my terminology could be confusing. I tend to differentiate between ‘posting’ and ‘commenting’ (what we are doing now), whereas others differentiate between ‘thread-starters’ and ‘posters’.
minibreakfast says
Oof, just outside the top ten! Must try to more post even more nonsense.
(130 is actually shockingly high if we’re talking OPs.)
salwarpe says
As clarified above, yes – it’s OPs, mini. As I said, it’s just a snapshot, although from the last 30+ months – so about one a week, on average.
Dogbyte says
There’s a rule of thumb for internet forums which is that for any given site 90% are lurkers, 9% are contributors and only 1% are creators.
Without knowing the total number of members this data would suggest the Afterword is above average in the creation department.
salwarpe says
I make it 387 posters/thread-starters out of a current membership of 683 – so just under 57% have been active bloggers – the number of commenters/posters is probably higher.
Beany says
I’m honoured to be in such esteemed company. Perhaps I should gracefully retire now.
Beany; James Blast (90)
salwarpe says
Esteemed company indeed – looking through the list, that name stood out in particular…
bricameron says
Just pipped to the post for the number 3 spot coming in at number 4 with his latest “What would Willie Nelson do?”, no wait I think I got that wrong it’s …
Tiggerlion says
I try not impose myself on the blog more than once a week. Looks like I’m doing a decent job in that respect.
Moose the Mooche says
Ah yes, but I win the Tumbleweed Derby!
minibreakfast says
Most of my threads turn into smut-fests pretty quickly. I admit that this is largely my fault.
Moose the Mooche says
Wait… smut-fests are a bad thing?
I missed that memo!
minibreakfast says
I never said they were bad.
Moose the Mooche says
Well, they usually are when I get involved.
hurrrrrrrrrrrr
mikethep says
It’s the Marigolds.
Happybird says
3 that’s not bad considering I’m a infrequent reader of the forum.
Shall try to start threads more In 2017 though .
salwarpe says
Nice to ”hear’ from you, @happybird – I hope not to make you less happy, but my, rather chaotic, chart (formatted while posting – so aware of the ticking clock) puts the score after the list – so it’s 2, not 3.
I look forward to reading your threads – I’d be well happy if this thread had the effect of encouraging less frequent contributors to take part more.
Happybird says
2 to be honest is what I expected~ so I’m still happy .
Been meaning to write about some TV programmes so will probably post something soon.
Uncle Wheaty says
121 in just under 3 years sounds about right, although that will be a bit front loaded I am guessing. I have started a lot fewer threads in the last 6 months I believe.
salwarpe says
That information isn’t SO readily available, but, as a test to see how do-able and time-consuming it is, I went through your back pages and discovered the following:
• Within last month (3); 1 month ago (2); 2 months ago (5); 3 months ago (5); 4 months ago (9); 5 months ago (2); 6 months ago (3); 7 months ago (3); 8 months ago (4); 9 months ago (6); 10 months ago (11)
• Within last year (53), 1-2 years ago(30), 2-3 years (38)
• Total comments (968)
Moose the Mooche says
Ah but he was so much older then. He’s younger than that now.
Happy Harry says
Three posts? Blimey about two more than I thought
GCU Grey Area says
Sounds about right. I’m more of a joiner in than a threadstarter, twisted threadstarter.
salwarpe says
And boy, do you join! 1596 comments, so far!
Not to mention some pretty fab images.
duco01 says
Hi salwarpe (and everyone else)
How can I see how many comments I’ve made in total?
I’ve looked under Track and My Profile, and I don’t see the information there…
salwarpe says
Hi @duco01!
How many comments? Well –
1 Go to your page (clicking on your name will do that)
2 There’s a little box marked ‘Show’ – select ‘Comments’
3 Scroll to the bottom of the screen (Ctrl + End is the most efficient way, done with your right hand)
4 Click on ‘Load More’ (with left hand on mouse)
5 Repeat 4 & 5 until you get to the your first comment (This can take some time)
6 Highlight all the text and press Ctrl + C
7 Paste it into Notepad to remove formatting (Not sure about Apple – probably something equivalent),
8 Copy and paste ‘clean’ text into Word
9 Find and replace all carriage returns with line breaks (Ctrl + H, replace ^p with ^l)
10 Find and replace all examples of ‘Favourite^l’ with ^p
11 Select all text and number the list
12 Go to the last entry and note the number
It’s a bit of a faff, I know.
The answer is 2068, by the way
GCU Grey Area says
You’re right. It is a faff.
1598.
GCU Grey Area says
‘The Afterword – the practical alternative to work’.
1597.
moseleymoles says
Floating just outside the top ten sounds about right. Am surprised it’s that many posts.
Black Celebration says
Me too. Surprised that HP Saucy McSauceface’s numbers remain high.
Mousey says
99! Goodness me. Better think of something sensible for the century
Junior Wells says
Being a serial antipodean poster I knew I’d be up there with KFD. Was surprised BP was so far ahead.
I think Bri’s should be down weighted for those posts of one sentence or less.
Bargepole says
Bargepole really needs to get out more 🙂
retropath2 says
Tigger is not the only available reviewer for those you don’t do yourself. (Yup, still smarting about Salisbury.)
moseleymoles says
True that. One theatre of hate download only to my name so far
Bargepole says
Have sent you a pm a couple of days ago @retropath2
Billybob Dylan says
I’m rubbish at starting threads. I can only post during the day (California time) and work keeps getting in the way.
salwarpe says
A very respectable 285 comments, though.
Billybob Dylan says
Yeah, well, work’s not that important, right?
mikethep says
Why can you only post during the day?
Paul Wad says
Mmm, just 14* blog entries for me, but all preceded by worrying as to whether what I am saying will be of any interest to anybody.
*There were an additional 149 blog entries that were scrapped at the idea/writing stage after deciding that no, it won’t be of any interest to anybody!
Junior Wells says
Well, posting is free and the fickle finger of the Afterword comment/views count will soon tell you, so post away.
Neilo says
Can’t post streaming media from work so Golden Age Of Acid Jazz video clips are out, but I do love dipping into the odd thread and picking up recommends.
Kaisfatdad says
A good sound philosophy Junior.
It can be a bit like sitting with a group of friends and throwing in a topic of conversation that I am interested in. Sometimes it really takes off, sometimes it dies the death. And sometimes one person mentions something really interesting that I did not know about which makes me very glad that I brought the topic up.
spider-mans arch enemy says
I’m in the relegation zone with two. Might have to get busy in the January window.
Freddy Steady says
If you do, will you please let Mick McCarthy know how you did it?
Arthur Cowslip says
16.A decent total, I think. Anyone posting more than me is just a blatant attention seeker….
