John Simon Ritchie
1973/74 on his way to a Bowie gig
According to John Lydon, he would spend weeks trying to perfect the Bowie hairdo. He even took to drying it in the oven (don’t ask, I don’t understand either)
How about this young whippersnapper? Copied from a blog posting he wrote in 2004:
“Back in 1991, Bowie was playing with his band at the time Tin Machine at the Royal Court. I was 8 years old and my dad bought me a ticket and took me along with him.
A few days before the show my mum sent a letter to the Royal Court addressed to Bowie and in the letter it said how much of a fan I was and that I knew all the words to the songs etc…
Anyway, during the show Bowie kept saying stuff like ‘have we got any kids in tonight?’ which tended to be greeted with cheers from the crowd. The band finished their main set and when they came out for the encore Bowie said ‘This one’s for Paul Harris… where ever he is.’ and proceeded to play “You Belong In Rock n Roll’.
Only a few months ago did we finally get hold of a bootleg of this show and you can hear it clear as day. As far as I’m aware I don’t know of any other shows where Bowie has personally dedicated a song to someone in the crowd.”
I’m after a copy of that bootleg to download and edit that introduction into a sound file. That young boy is now my son-in-law.
