Does anybody on the AW know?
Ever since lockdown Patak’s Aubergine Pickle has just disappeared.
Obviously, at first I assumd it was a supply chain thing, like bog roll & hand sanitiser in the early days of the pandemic – now of course, pretty much everything is as it was, but not my beloved jars of gorgeous goo.
Lime pickle & Mango chutney are there in abundance.
Does anyone know why? We need to be told!
I’m asking mostly ‘cos it’s curry night & it just ain’t the same.

Must be a regional thing (perhaps).
Plenty of Aubergine Pickle here (Reading) but no Lime Pickle
(not that I care – don’t like the stuff, but Mrs D does like a dollop every so often)

Yes the occasional dollop keeps them happy apparently.

When will they ever learn?

Mike on the meat counter at the market has not been able to get any stuffing (no, that’s not Moose-bait) since lockdown started. He has no idea why, but that particular supply chain has broken.

Sadly I think some supermarkets have still reduced their product lines to concentrate on those that are more lucrative. J Sainsbury still refuses to supply me my spicy Italian sausages. What a world we live in.

I used to get Wilkins of Tiptree Brown Sauce there but no longer. Iâm pretty sure no one else bought it.

Full Patak’s range available in Todmorden (Rigg’s Farm shop). Aubergine, Mixed and Lime Pickles went down well with this evening’s curry.

Iâm having a similar problem sourcing âKitchens Of Indiaâsâ curry paste. Iâm assuming itâs the covid problem in India itself.

We’ve not had any mint sauce for two weeks. Not the end of the world, I admit, but for a while I wondered if it was.some sort of conspiracy that involved Dominic Raab.

At least if it was his fault, you might be able to console yourself with the fact that he didn’t do it deliberately!

There wasnât any Morello Cherry Jam at the local Marks and Spencerâs Food Hall for over a month.
I had to retire my Fainting Couch.
I like a dollop on my porridge. Please donât tell anyone I know in Newcastle.

I’m very fond of Patak’s green chilli pickle. A soupçon can inflame a dish with flavour and meaning. But it has become elusive since lockdown. I am certain its industrial strength properties would be able to see off any viruses immediately, so this is especially concerning

Weird synchronicity. I JUST walked up the condiments and sauces aisle in waitrose this afternoon and saw a jar and immediately went YUM and bought it. Because itâs incredible.

Most, if not all of these shortages are pretty First-World, aren’t they.
I expect it’s down to wholesalers/distributors being short-staffed or short of money. Or goods that are produced where there are currently shortages of fit & healthy workers.
My diet is seemingly pretty plain and unadventurous, compared to some of youse. The only thing I’ve recently had trouble finding, for a while, was vanilla essence.

I blame Chris Grayling.
For everything.

He’s only there to make the others seem a little less shit.

It’s a safe bet.

Possibly unrelated, but there’s been a problem with Sainsburys own-brand mango chutney for many months now, both the bog-standard one and the especially nice one from the ‘F8ck Me, This Is Yummy’ range.
Lots of other things have been going in and out of stock for about a year, which I suspect is Brexit-related, as they change supply lines. Seem to have repackaged loads of things, too.

We were forced to buy Patak’s curry paste as they had no sauce in the lockdown, and you know what, it’s miles nicer. So we buy that now. Less sweet plus you add fresh veg. Lush.

Update: the sky is metaphorically black with hats & joy is unconfined in my locality as the pickle has returned- I bought 2 jars of course, & it took all my restraint not to panic buy the lot- âcos you never know when the next pandemic is âround the corner, do you?
