I’m weekending in Switzerland’s capital city of Bern, visiting my big brother, who works for the multi-national company 3M.
I’m finding it easy to love this part of the world. I’m sitting on the balcony, overlooking the Bernese Alps, contemplating my visit to Wankdorf stadium today to see the Young Boys of Bern and one of my favourite songs comes on the radio.
I’d forgotten Justin drops the F word. My eyebrows lift until my niece informs me they have no censoring of song lyrics.
I’m chatting with my sister in law and learning about how people live here and their relationship with the state. I hardly know anything, but, what I do know is, I want to know more.
I think I like it here. A lot.
Anyone else loving the Swiss…? ❤️

I like this Swiss Cajun band!
Had a lovely couple of days walking in southern Switzerland last September with an old mate who works in Zurich. On the last day we crossed the border into Chiavenna in Italy for pizza and some more tolerable prices. Beautiful country, but very expensive and a slightly stifling sense of social conservatism, especially in rural areas. There are lots of rules and regulations, but things do seem to work very well there.
Glad you like Switzerland, @todayoutof10. It has its charms. I lived in and near Zürich for 10 years, and enjoyed the scenery (manicured) and quality of life (stifling) but didn’t get to know many Swiss. The couple living in the flat below us, who were unusually friendly and welcoming, made a point of saying they were not typically Swiss. Rich and conservative sums it up for me. By contrast, Germans seem quite relaxed.
Neutral, but armed, every Swiss man is required to have and practise using firearms – hence the song –
There can’t be a single horse in the country with a stone in it’s hoof.
Moose, I can’t believe you missed Wankdorf followed by Young Boys of Bern in the OP.
Gah! I’m well Pisdorf about that.
