It’s been very quiet on the Games section and I’m in need for some PC fun!
Where’s Mousey when you don’t need him!
Xbox one too if there’s anything going on there.
I posted what I like on a previous thread.
Over to you…..

This was meant for the Games section.

Vampire Survivors, on mobile.
One of the most moreish games I’ve played in a very long time. Brilliantly simple, but incredibly effective. Also available for free, so there is no excuse not to play it (and on PC, for those who like mice).
That and Zelda, obvs.
Lunaman says
I’ll have a go and find out what Zelda is….cheers
Bingo Little says
If you play Vampire Survivors it’s worth having a quick Google to figure out how progression works.
The gameplay is super simple but the meta isn’t always obvious.

I finished Last of Us 2 a couple of months ago – sniff! – Just a level about anything else in terms of story-driven character-based games. I am gutted that Starfield is an xbox only, to console myself (see what I did there) on the ps5 am having another dip into the Chris Foss wonderscapes of No Man’s Sky. About the fourth time I’ve returned, always thinking that the updates will reveal a whole new storyline to follow. Never quite that. But abandoned ships a great addition. Son is suggesting Borderlands 3 as up my alley so may well give that a go.

I think ‘very quiet’ is something of an understatement – ten posts in seven years, the most recent being over two years ago.
A record only beaten by the Afterwiki section with five posts in seven years!
Perhaps time to consider the future of these neglected sections.

Bump!
Maybe if you’re a gamer just tell us what you’ve been playing lately. I’d like to see whether there’s much interest and I’m genuinely looking for someting new to play.

I thought Stray was superb on PS5. Available on pc now, and xbox from August. https://youtu.be/kJawWyRUOBM

Amazing how that band have kept going.
Lunaman says
I’ve seen that but haven’t played it. Xbox August it will be – thanks

I am enjoying that too. It’s quite meditative and absorbing isn’t it?
I have Deathloop to look forward to after that, which.. isn’t!

If you only play one deep sea fishing game with a Lovecraftian vibe this year make it Dredge.
Bingo Little says
Awesome game, great recommendation.

I played Gran Turismo a lot when a younger cove. It was the only game I could play. I couldn’t get out of the first room in Metal Gear Solid.
Anyway, I loved GT all the way to GT6 when I stopped playing. I was reminded of this forcibly yesterday on seeing a trailer for the Gran Turismo movie. It looks as though it’s another pile of CGI cookie cutter 3 act of set up, jeopardy and learning tom-tit.
Mind I’d be surprised if it was another Third Man or The Seventh Seal. Even so.

Ah Metal Gear. One of the early PS games – along with Final Fantasy 7 and Doom, that cemented gaming as an adult pastime. The sneak-em-up nature of the game – trying to avoid combat wherever possible – rewarded patience rather than quick reflexes. Gamer joke: would like ‘Snake noooo’ with the dramatic sting, that played whenever Snake died, at my funeral.

I used to game a lot (or play games, as it was called then) when I was still in the son’s orbit. I was fascinated by the Spectrum, and when the Amiga arrived…I could land an F/A-18 on the carrier without crashing every single time, and I often got lost in Myst. Whatever I was doing – work, even – the late Mrs thep used to call it playing on the computer, and she wasn’t wrong a lot of the time.
These days it’s all scrabble tee-em, sudoku, Wordle, Spelling Bee, solitaire, hearts, mahjong. Can’t be bothered with all the rest. Carry on.

If fantasy adventure tickles your fancy, try Shadow of the Colossus. Its a really old game but they did a 2018 remake and its brilliant.
Lunaman says
Cheers@SidWilliams it’s only available on PlayStation so not for me at the moment.
Lunaman says
Thanks for all your suggestions. I shall be checking them out.

Rereading the OP Starfield will be on pc – wait for the launch hype to die down and see what the more considered reviews are like. You’ll need a decent machine to play it on.

I’m riding through Days Gone – great biking and zombie-slaughtering third-person fun in a semi-open huge game world, with well disguised procedural plotlines allowing multiple alternative secondary paths through the yarn, an intriguing back-story, lots of well acted and scripted cut scenes to string it together, and a realistic choice between guns-blazing or stealth for a lot of the missions. Playing on PC with mouse and keyboard. About 60 hours in so far, over several months, playing a little most days, with occasional multi-hour engagements.
Lunaman says
Cheers @VulpesVulpes I shall investigate. I mostly play PC with mouse/keyboard.

I’m not much of a gamer these days – I play Threes on my phone and that’s about it.
My son has finally got his PS5 and along with FIFA / NBA has been playing the Harry Potter one and Jedi (the latest one – can’t remember the full title). Both looked great on the PS5 and he seemed to enjoy.
As someone ,who thinks the greatest ever games is Lemmings, I do like the look of this “Humanity” on his PS5 – it looks like a modern spin. I may have to investigate…….

Also on the pile is The Long Dark, recommended to me by many in the Guardian BTL comments as the best survivalist game out there. I like the art design and play but it’s early days and I haven’t even been able to stun and trap any rabbits yet, so the sweet release of death by exposure arrives regularly.

I’m still going old school with the PS3. Currently playing Wolfenstein – New World Order.
It’s 1960, the Nazis won the war and you have to fight wave after wave of the buggers across multiple locations. Good, clean fun.
Next up is Arkham Asylum.

I’ve spent the last few months getting to grips with my new Steam Deck. Mainly I’ve been playing EA Sports PGA Tour (which after a few updates plays perfectly, most of the time) Red Dead Redemption 2 and Spiderman.
Also I’ve managed to get some emulators going on it. So I’ve been playing Topspin 4, God Of War Collection (PS3), Crazy Taxi 2 (Dreamcast) Goldeneye 007, Mario Kart 64 (N64), Burnout Revenge, Call Of Duty-Finest Hour (PS2) Super Mario (NES)
