There is no song link because I cannot remember the App for recognising songs whilst they play (I did once know but by the time I’d downloaded the App, the song was over). So can you help?
Over the festive period there was a Xmas special of Death In Paradise. To accompany the opening credits was played a very bass heavy, very ‘80’s sounding ‘popular’ song – I think it was a stab at a Christmas song.
I have never been able to decide whether I liked/disliked/tolerated said song.
But what I really want to know is what is the name of the sing and who wrote m/ performed it.
(I may have asked this question before!).
There’s a Death In Paradise Christmas 2023 special as well as a Beyond Paradise christmas special – was it deffo the former?
The Beyond Paradise one started with a version of Just As The Tide Was Flowing, which is old as the hills and available in countless versions.
There was a DIP special and it was dreadful. The most boring DIP I’ve ever seen. Beyond paradise special was a gem though.
Was it Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses? Mrs F was watching it the other day, while I was in the kitchen. I went to remind her what she was listening to. She was very impressed, as you can imagine.
That was the one in Death In Paradise at the start (at the airport]
@fentonsteve did you also tell her your copy was nicked at a student house party
I’ve already told her to keep a look out for it, but perhaps it is about time I gave her a reminder.
30 years back when I was gigging three times a week, I used to be able to play the bassline. Nowadays I’d struggle with the root notes.
It was, it was – thank you so much. Every Xmas for years I chance upon it and wonder who the f… is that?
(I just find it as annoying as it is catchy).
I must see if they did anything else worth getting annoyed about. (Afterword T shirt?)
I have a ‘Complete works of the Waitresses’ 2CD set and I don’t think anything else they did was that catchy. Try ‘I Know What Boys Like’ and report back on how annoying you find it.
I am delighted for you owning their full works, but I really think I can give it a miss for this lifetime.
In almost every environment I visited in the last four weeks I’ve been astonished at the imagination of each location playing Xmas songs back to back. So much so that I recognised the midday playlist tended to be repeated in its entirely around 6pm – every single day!
Fabulous
Much as I now love the Waitresses we need more Xmas songs!!
Christmas Wrapping is the only Xmas song the Waitresses did. The rest of their stuff (a couple of albums and an EP) is much more New York New Wave – think early Blondie.
The Spice Girls did a version. Not essential – it’s no Spice up your Life!
As did Kylie, Kate Nash, Martha Wainwright, Haim, The Saturdays, and many more.
My fave cover is (one of?) the first in 1998, by Californian Jewish ska-punk band Save Ferris:
The app is Shazam.
Or use the Google app. Press the microphone icon and then “search for a song”. Advantage over Shazam is that you may (may) be able to sing or hum a remembered motif or lyric from a song and find out that way. Works Shazam style too by listening.
I didn’t know you could do that. It’s not very accurate though. I just sang Stairway To Heaven and it identified it as Shaddap You Face.
That may have been commentary not identification
What can we say, Gary?
Maybe the app is rather naff? Or perhaps a few singing lessons would be money well spent!!
I know you’ve been in Italy a long time Gary, but even so that’s impressive.
Just tried the Google app, it identified the song and the film it came from.
Is it Lifted by The Lighthouse Family?
Nooooooo. Please, Noooooo
Ha ha! That was an epic thread.
