I dumped Prime a while ago because we didn’t use it that much now the kids are sort of grown up but I had noticed that when I did order something, it often didn’t arrive next day, usually 2 days rather than one. I do like their locker service though.
For shipments out to Singapore, I find they are one of the slowest – if I “pre-order” and item from Burning Shed / SDE / etc they will invariably send out the Mon / Tues of the week of release and so it arrives within a day or two of the official Friday release date. Amazon will always on ship after it has been released and sometimes in can be a couple of days after release date before its shipped.
In the eighties I used to order records from shops which advertised in the back pages of Record Collector. I usually sent a letter with a batch of International Reply Coupons off to the UK – and then, unexpectedly, after 6 or 8 weeks, a package with 7″ singles and CDs would arrive at my address in Casablanca. This was before »payment confirmation«, parcel tracking or »shipping notification« were invented.
And still, it worked. Those were the days…
I feel guilty using Amazon – that’s three times alone this week.
A while back I nipped over to the UK on my own for a long weekend. I was given a large and varied shopping list for womanly stuff apparently not available in France. I looked at the list and thought “That means I have to go there, then over there, off to that godforsaken retail centre in the middle of nowhere, etc etc. Bugger that.
Next thing a van pulls up, a chap gets out, throws everything my love ever wanted over the hedge and drives away.
Hate them but blimey they are indeed bloody fast…
There are 2 distribution centres in the Ottawa area so same day delivery is possible. In the past I have ordered from Amazon UK and it showed up in 2 days with very low shipping costs. Those days appear to be over though. Am ordering less and hardly watch Prime so I may cancel, apart from taking advantage of occasional free months.
The 3-CD – a bargain at just over UK£20 and with six or seven tracks seeming to crop up in his recent solo shows, a must for a JI novice like myself ahead of his upcoming Dublin gig
Actually saw JI once before when he played with John Prine in Dublin about 10 years ago/ Had tickets for his last 400 Unit visit here but ended up not going as had two other gigs around the same time (“T’aint cheap going up to Dublin)
Southeastern is what you meant in the op. You had me rushing to Amazon hoping for something new. It’s a great box set. Original album, stripped down bare acoustic album of the same songs, and a live set….wonderful!!
I particularly like the stripped down versions as I play guitar and it’s a great learning tool for Isbell’s style of playing.
Not so much in rural Australia. A week if you’re lucky, unless you haven’t been paying attention and it’s being shipped from the States. They use a variety of courier services, and you often get the dreaded text: We’re sorry, but we were unable to deliver your parcel today. We will try again on the next business day.
They are pretty good here on the outskirts of Brisbane. I have occasionally ordered on the Sat to have it turn up on the Sunday. Australia Post takes the best part of a week to deliver something posted from within Brisbane.
On a slight tangent, I ordered an expensive guitar part yesterday and paid an extra tenner for ‘next working day’ delivery. It was only after I hit ‘pay’ that I noticed the small print ‘When ordered before 2pm’. It was about 3:30. So I’ll get it on Monday, when I’m not in, plus I’ve wasted that tenner. Very much a first world problem I know, but still: Rats’ cocks, readers!
All true. On Sunday we were on a train home from London. I had plugged my phone into the charger between the seats, then tripped over the lead on my way to the loo (I may have had a couple of pints at the station, then one more because the next fast train wasn’t due for half an hour). The result was the USB end snapping and the lead becoming useless. I immediately ordered another lead, or a twin pack of 2m leads to be exact, for 7 quid and they were put through my letterbox by lunchtime on Monday. Hard to argue with service like that.
Best from AUS was a Twilight Zone box set which I ordered on a Saturday and was delivered to me in Hong Kong by Mon lunch.
Its a shame they didn’t deliver later in the day just for the poetic symmetry.

I remember my mum’s catalogue which took 30 days for things to be delivered!

I’ve got the arse with Prime since they started including adverts with the option to pay more to not have them.
Anyway was it the CD or vinyl set?
@Twang

That’s the one I’m after. Looks brilliant. I’m a big fan.
I’ve been watching this lately. As a slide player you might like it.
And don’t forget that there’s a BRAND NEW Jason Isbell solo acoustic album called “Foxes in the Snow” coming out on 7 March. Exciting!

Oh more treats.
Cheers, guys

Complain, you will probably get it back
