I’m all for experimental music and things that a lot of people will witheringly call ‘pretentious’. I own a 17 CD Henry Cow Box set. I listen to Autechre’s NTS Sessions a lot. I own a copy of STUMM433 (Google it). This, however is pure Nathan Barley. Released by Johnny Trunk, inspired by his neighbour who goes by the name of Futurecrime (of course). Apparently this is ASMR and people “get off on it”. I quote: “If one weren’t told otherwise, the recordings may well resemble close-miked documentation of insects, some esoteric ritual, or a game of backgammon sped up, but closer inspection reveals sequences of these flurries that are possibly identifiable as furious delete keying or hammering a return button. And this is where it gets interesting, as each recording reveals to the listener the idiosyncrasies of each keyboard and its custom parts which, like custom built cars, use a huge spectra of parts both vintage and bespoke to achieve the users’ dream build and preferred levels of tactility and clickiness.”

I passed on this and ordered the other new Trunk release – Roy Budd’s soundtrack to The Internecine Project.
I absolutely hate the sound of typing on a keyboard. Typewriters, fine. When I end up in Guantanamo they’ll be playing this to me.
PS. Hipster wankery sounds very awkward.
That Henry Cow set is fantastic fun. Glad to know who bought the other copy.
Actually…..we are a trio……
Hey, now we have a trio, let’s form a band!
We can all say we were there for the birth of Dr Fitterfox.
I already have the crocodile clips….just need to get the guitar…..
Excellent I’ll be on skronking Sax! I’m still wading through it but it’s exceptionally good value, amazing music, lovely looking package and when I’m in the mood I can get immersed in their weird but deadly serious world.
BTW I blame Vic Reeves for my love of ‘ver Cow – he had Nirvana for Mice as one of his Desert Island Discs years ago – Sue Lawley was not impressed (she was even less impressed with Bucephalus Bouncing Ball by the Aphex Twin).
Can I be the first to say I prefer the early demos.
*sniff*
And people have the audacity to moan about Metal Machine Music.
😂👍
Not sure what this has to do with hipsters.
I would have thought a pair of shiny-ass polyester M&S suit trousers would have been more appropriate.
I can’t believe we have got this far without a mention of Joseph Cooper!
He presented a quiz show about classical music. One section featured him playing a silent keyboard and the panel had to work out what he was playing. His playing style called to mind Rolf (?) the piano player in the muppets.
“I’ll name that tune in ..er.. none”.
The best bit in Shine is during the “Rach 3” when they fade out the actual music so that you can just hear tge sound of his fingers hammering on the keys.
We’re still one step down from the peak.
They can re-release all the tracks from this album, spread across six 7″ singles.
On multi-coloured vinyl.
In a box.
With some keys.
A glass panel on the top of the box, where you had to break the glass to get at the key.
Or a sealed stainless steel box and a crowbar.
…every morning the set has to be cleaned by a grotesquely underpaid African refugee, for the authentic flavour of the modern office space.
Why employ an African refugee at all, when you could get your intern (preferably a cabinet minister’s son or daughter) to do it for nothing.
We’re still talking about the cleaning, right?
(sorry)
