Watership Down is a fabulous book that works as a kids’ story just as well as an adults’ one, a tremendously difficult feat to pull off.
Perhaps he’s gone to meet the Black Rabbit…
‘He reached the top of the bank in a single, powerful leap. Hazel followed; and together they slipped away, running easily down through the wood, where the first primroses were beginning to bloom’.

Should also have an honourable mention for Girl In A Swing, a memorable novel which is part sensual romance, part intriguing mystery, part dread-inducing horror.
