“I didn’t know he was orange until a number of years ago, when he happened to turn orange. I respect either one, but he obviously doesn’t and now he wants to be known as Orange. All of a sudden he made a turn and became an Orange person. I think someone should look into that.”

Nice bit of satire there, Rodney. Good lad 🫡
duco01 says
Erm … who’s this ‘Rodney’ person?
Rod’s first name is RODERICK!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Stewart
MC Escher says
Duly noted and head hung in shame 😏
Black Type says
What a plonker! 😉
Black Celebration says
I had a friend at school who was a huge fan of Rod Stewart. He always called him Rodney.
Gary says
The “Rodneys” are queuing up.
Freddy Steady says
Arf…nice one.
Kaisfatdad says
I’m rather surprised that Rod is now getting political.
I’d find it easier to believe that Trump had borrowed Do ya think I’m sexy? for his rallies.
Now that would really get the Orange Hordes going. It’d get me going.
Out of the door.
dai says
Not sure he invented that, it was all over social media a few days ago
MC Escher says
And now it’s here.
Kjwilly says
Trump will now doubt refer to the MMHM as “overrated, lacking in talent”
Captain Darling says
I doubt he has any idea who Sir Roderick of Stewart actually is. As somebody pointed out, Orange Jesus has never shown any real interest in or knowledge of music, films, theatre, art or culture of any kind. He appears to be a complete cultural void.
If so, how awful it must be to go through life like that.
Mike_H says
That bullet passed right through Orange Donald’s cultural void and only grazed his lug ‘ole.
“Left a bit ..”
Jaygee says
@Mike_H
And you wonder why Jack Black didn’t respond to your application for a role in his upcoming movie.
hubert rawlinson says
He does have knowledge of art as the book what he ‘wrote’ was called “The Art of the Deal”.
Vincent says
The emptiness of psychopaths has often been noted. They don’t have something more, they have something missing. He also doesn’t like animals, and thinks laughter is a sign of weakness. See my first sentence. This is why he doesn’t feel guilt or shame, and cannot comprehend loyalty or fidelity. But even if he has no insight into his own ridiculousness, he knows that people laughing at him is not a good thing, so keep laughing.
Sewer Robot says
I thought psychopaths were supposed to be good at lying..?
fitterstoke says
Sociopaths, shurely?
MC Escher says
I had heard that he never laughs, but not his view that it’s actually a weakness. Jesus.
Captain Darling says
I believe that’s why he thinks Laughin’ Kamala is such a great nickname. She laughs = she’s weak. What a deeply, deeply weird man he is.
As a viral post on Twitter said (can’t recall who it was by, unfortunately), one of the many reasons British people don’t rate Trump is that he never tells a joke, is never self-deprecating, and never demonstrates any understanding of humour. The only thing that seems to entertain him is mocking others or punching down, something that most Britons don’t accept from people in the public eye, let alone their leaders.
MC Escher says
And people who kick down also invariably kiss up. Hence his fawning over Orban, Putin et al.
Kaisfatdad says
That’s what I thought @Captain Darling. But then I saw this article in the Independent.
To my horror I discovered that DJ T actually plays a few songs that I like.
The clip of him dancing is hilarious.
No place here for Sister Sledge’s He’s the Greatest Dancer.
Vincent says
He heard the rock in strip clubs, I suspect.
Twang says
Apparently he reads nothing. As in, nothing. No briefing papers, no documents etc. Certainly not books. People give him a superficial summary and he just decides, something, anything, then they try to pick the bones out of it. The Rest is Politics America podcast is very enlightening.
Sitheref2409 says
Not “apparently”.
It’s fact
dai says
Can he read?
Max the Dog says
I think he has problems with reading and that is ampified by a lack of comprehension. Or maybe he needs to wear glasses and is too vain to do so in public. Hence the ‘airports during the civil war’ gaffe a couple of years ago. I’m sure the script said ‘ramparts’ but he didn’t recognise the word and introduced a word that did make sense (to him). Same as recently he said ‘institute in a death penalty’ when it probably should have been ‘institution in a death spiral’ A few years ago he was making a speech where he mixed up the word ‘unite’ with ‘untie’ multiple times. It made no sense and was the exact opposite of what was intended but he continued to use it because he didn’t realise it made no sense. Anybody can mis-speak or use the wrong word but most will realise that they have and correct themselves – Trump doesn’t seem to have that ability.

David Kendal says
My life would certainly be a lot duller without any art, music or literature, but I don’t think having these interests necessarily improves your character, whether you’re a politician or anybody else. Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Pol Pot and Mao were all keen aficionados of the arts, and in most of those cases, also practitioners. Hard to see that it led to any moral improvement.
Sitheref2409 says
Doing them might not make you a better person.
Not doing them certainly won’t. I think it betrays a certain lack of interest in the world. And for someone seeking office, that is definitely a bad thing.
Jaygee says
@Kjwilly
More likely to start using Do Ya Think I’m Sexy at his campaign rallies as suggested by @kaisfatdad above
Rigid Digit says
Others have too made their feelings known (using a popular tune as the basis)
Kaisfatdad says
Reading that article about Trump’s Spotify Playlist I became aware of his fondness for Village People’s YMCA as the song to concludes his rallies.
How seriously eccentric is that?
In the words of Kamala’s new running-mate Tim Walz: These people are weird.
Simpering wreck says
Do you think he knows that YMCA is a gay anthem?
TrypF says
My guess is that he wanted to be seen as young and virile compared to Joe Biden, so asked a staffer ‘What’s that song that goes “Young man”? Play that one at the end of the rally’. One can only imagine the flustered staffer, saying ‘Are you sure that’s wise, sir?’ But you don’t contradict the Donald.
Jaygee says
@TypF
He had another banger lined up to end his rallies but found that Tommy Robinson had already snapped up the rights to the Horst Wessel Song
Beezer says
The unveiling of Tim Walz as the Democrat VP pick was quite the sight. The venue was genuinely packed, unlike at the majority of Trump’s rallies, and the sound of the happy cheering was round and full. Again unlike the sparse weediness of Trump ‘s crowd responses.
Like Harris, Walz seems to be a confident and clear speaker. Plain English and to the point. They both seem willing and content to nail Trump and Vance to the fucking wall with a smile in the voice. Which Biden seemed unwilling to do, infirm or not.
I hope. My God, I hope.
Jim says
There’s a positivity running through the Dems now, like a current has been switched on.
And Trump’s nowhere to be seen these last few days either.
It’s the hope that will kill you…
Jaygee says
Been very critical of KH here in the past and am still not convinced of whether she has what it takes to stop Trump (which Biden was supposed to do in 2020 and obviously didn’t) or be the decisive leader the US and our increasingly chaotic world so desperately needs.
In fairness to KH though, her choice of TW looks both very brave and very promising.
Here’s hoping for the definitive ending of Trump (and more importantly Trumpism) and the start of better things for the US and the world come November’s election
MC Escher says
As far as Trumpism’s future goes (a phrase I never thought I would type) JDV is supposed to be the torch-bearer for the next generation of people who define themselves by what they hate. Something to look forward to, there.
dai says
I think you might find that Biden won in 2020.
Jaygee says
Indeed he did, but his doing so didn’t stop Trump who,
perhaps you might find, remains a political force
Mike_H says
Having watched Harris and Walz’s speeches at the union HQ meeting, Walz is a very good speaker indeed. Harris a bit less so.
Walz is confident and forthright clearly, as someone mentioned, comfortable in his own skin.
Harris seemed a bit less sure of herself, though she acquitted herself well. Certainly more nervous than Walz. I suppose she has a bit more at stake than he does. I suspect she could get a little whiny under pressure, if she wasn’t careful.
Diddley Farquar says
I do feel some nervousness over whether Harris can maintain momentum and convince. It’s assumed a debate will show Trump up but he can be tricky, focusing on matters his opponent doesn’t want to deal with but gets drawn into. While she has charisma there needs to be more specific content, not just a vague sort of we can bring us all together and I believe in the people. We are waiting for something more. The media don’t help because they raise the issues Trump and Vance want to bring up. We are waiting for some killer blows, not just Trump being a bit miffed that Biden’s gone.
An overly progressive stance might alienate those who are on the fence. Not me, but I am on their side, it’s those more sceptical who need to be convinced. I could be wrong, their approach could be exactly what’s required. I think trying to be more tough on immigration, more conservative, has not been the right approach. You have to offer something clearly different.
Kaisfatdad says
Excellent post, Diddley. It would be very unwise not to feel nervous at this point.
It’s going to be a long and dramatic, nail-biting 100 days.
Hopefully Walz can deliver a few killer punches. She seems to have made a good choice there.
