What does it sound like?:
Like an alternative soundtrack to the first season of True Detective – as though someone has reimagined the work of David Lynch, Nancy Sinatra, Lana Del Rey, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Ry Cooder and Aldous Harding — but also inscrutable and arch, theatrical and very, very cinematic.
I’m slightly addicted at the moment. She’s one of those artists who creates her own world and I can’t stay away. I listened to the much-hyped Last Dinner Party album and it just seemed like Vera-lite to me (although that could be a symptom of my affliction).
What does it all *mean*?
It seems almost a shame to mention that she’s Dan Ackroyd’s daughter. But there you have it.
Goes well with…
Splitting for Jackson.

Truly superb. Thanks for highlighting this: I would certainly have remained unaware of its existence.

Pleasure!
Also, love the new Poison Ivy profile pic.

Well, thanks! She’ll be 71 in about a fortnight – so it’s a Birthday Tribute!

*Thumbs up* from me too!

I haven’t done the full 6 listens yet, but I am enjoying it, particularly the way the music follows the lead of her vocals and extends the tics and purrs. I wish my voice could have such orchestration. In the first song she sounds like a female Michael Gira to me.

What a pleasant surprise this album was. Thanks for flagging it, Mr Bangs

Thumbs aloft from me too. Brings the music of Michelle Gurevich to mind.
