Seeing Van’s instrumental album Beyond Words listed in the 2023 best ofs I thought I would give it a listen.
Not on Amazon or Spotify, nor was it for sale on Amazon.
How did people get their copy?

So far as I know you can only get them from the official website – don’t know whether they ship to Australia or not. Can’t honestly say I’ve been tempted…

Hmmm. Van seeking to maximise the yield I expect.
I got it from the label website. It’s fine. Not essential. I’ve heard worse…I must take another look to see what else might be available.
What sort of instrumentals? RnB jams , celtic swing ?
There’s various recordings from different eras, Junior. I’m not at home at the moment but I’ll try to get some specifics for you when I get back later…
Junior there’s scant information on the album credits regarding dates – just unreleased recordings from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. The lineups might be informative to those who know Van better than I do and they are reproduced on the discogs site. ‘Engineered by’ might provide further clues for those don’t mind researching:

5 and 6 are around the time of Veedon Fleece – Pete wingfeld and Jerome Van Hooke were with him at the first Knebworth.
The Mark Isham ones are probably early 80s
Thanks!
So far nothing else. But he does have an impressively extensive range of payment options.
Well it was only 1 of his 3 released albums this year
The year’s not quite over yet, D…
This reminds me that Seasick Steve, perhaps not on the lofty cultural level that Ivan the Man resides in, chose to do a vinly only release last year. I’m decidely *not* a vinlyman my self but I do like this a conceptual gambit. Scarcity creates interest as opposed to ubiquity fostering the opposite, maybe?
I remember Rem’s Peter Buck solo debut was exclusive to vinyl on release which was, depressingly, the best part of ten years ago now, oy vey!
____________
“Seasick Steve – ‘Only On Vinyl’
SEASICK STEVE releases his new album on 23 September (22) in vinyl format only. ONLY ON VINYL will be available in standard black vinyl and limited edition blue vinyl. The album cover tells you exactly what to expect. No CD. No digital. No streaming on iTunes or Spotify or phones. No nothing. Just good old fashioned vinyl. You won’t find it anywhere else. Is this the only album being released in the world on vinyl only? We don’t know, but it’s an interesting thought”
The Van release is only available on CD (and now vinyl) via his website and not available for streaming or download anywhere.
The album includes all previously unreleased tracks from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s.
Amusingly (but typically for The Belfast Cowboy) the first track on the instrumental album (Beyond Words) features Van humming and doing other various vocal noises throughout the whole track!
Below are 2 images of the musicians listed for all the tracks

Only just saw this @vanfan
Thanks. You will need to use an app like imgur for the images.
One of the few things Van can still make me smile with, is his frankly bizarre sense of scat. On the skiffle album he retreats, a couple of times, into that lullabullabulla sound people make with their lips and tongues, usually to amuse babys. And old gibbers like me.
His get-dressed-in-the-dark choice of schmatta is even more risible – “like an Australian’s nightmare” as Ian Faith might have said

He appears to have become a Batman villain in this image…
Interesting review of the Atmos bluray of Moondance over on SDE site.
Indeed.
My first of many, many Van albums
Sounds well worth getting.
