I received my CD copy of the new Van live album yesterday (the second release on Van’s new Orangefield label) and wanted to report that it is absolutely superb.
It’s a 2014 live recording compiled from 3 gigs Van performed at his old school (now demolished) in Belfast.
I wasn’t sure what the sound quality would be like from this archive recording but I must say it is one of the very best live recordings I have ever heard (recorded by Enda Walsh).
Van and the band are on wonderful form and the whole thing is a fabulous unexpected treat and a must for Van fans.
It is available from Van’s website in CD and vinyl formats and I believe it will also be released in hi-res (24/48 format) on 2nd August 2024.

Yes churlish of you JG.
Thanks @vanfan have been interested in this release and yours is the first proper assessment of the release that I have seen. With such an extensive concert attendance I’be interested to hear about your thoughts and recollections on all those shows.
Agree, have also read very positive reviews elsewhere. Catch Van on a good night even today and you may well have an amazing live experience
Unreserved apologies to @vanfan for posting this.
Mods, please delete my post of 11.22 this am
Apology accepted, thanks.
Do you happen to know the band lineup for this one?
The band is
Van M-vocals, alto sax, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, harmonica, piano
Paul Moran-piano, organ, trumpet
Dave Keary-electric guitar, acoustic guitar
Paul Moore-bass
Bobby Ruggiero-drums
Alistair White-euphonium, trombone
Chris White-tenor sax, baritone sax, clarinet, flute
Dana Masters-backing vocals
Jolene O’Hara-backing vocals
Thanks! Looks decent.
Got mine on Friday – it is astonishingly good and agree probably one of the best sounding live albums I have heard.
If this is the quality of his archive stuff I have no problem with them releasing something every month.
Easily an end of year best of contender and in whatever category it would have to appear in.
New or re-released?
I got the instrumental album last year and it was OK. But I’m happy to get this one based on all your positive reactions. I ordered my copy yesterday.
Just wanted to add my voice to the call out for a really classic live album from VtM. My copy turned up at the end of the past week but, having been distracted by tennis and footie, I’ve only just spun it up today – and I’m delighted to agree that it is absolutely top quality material, brilliantly perfromed and recorded and that it sounds just fabulous.
I’m puzzled – Amazon say it’s not released until August 2nd..?
I bought my CD copy directly from the label. Still available online for 13 of your beer tokens. Other formats also available for larger numbers of sponds.

It appears that it was released on CD and double vinyl last Friday through Van’s website but is not available from Amazon (and I assume other CD outlets) until 2nd August on which date I think the hi-res version of the album is also available
