Here’s what happens when you live overseas without meaning to commit treason. To be fully understood you naturally take on inflections. Fuck you people that have never traveled a mile from your manger. You’re the most ignorant fucks on the planet and yet we have to hear you whine when things aren’t going your way and what do you ignorant fucks do? You wave a flag that you don’t even know what it represents. Rant over. I had to get that off my chest.
Not being a Van fan, I don’t think I’ve ever actually heard him speak before. He has developed a real American accent, hasn’t he? If you had told me that was Trump speaking I would have believed you.
He had an American twang in the 70s (when he lived there), to me he just sounds Northern Irish now, however there is some similarity between American and Irish accents I think.
Not heard him speak before?! Then, pray, how can you get full value from Colin’s stream-of-consciousness reveries (Number 58! We were famished so we went on the scent of the Cookstown sizzle.. Dennis Taylor’s glasses made from jam jars.. Joey Dunlop’s helmet wet with rain.. C’mere, there’s more! etc)
Jim McDonald from Corrie was very keen on the expression “I’ll tell yet this and I’ll tell yet n’more…”. Maybe this will be the name of Van’s final album. In another thirty years time.
Listening to it again I stand by my assertion that there is a transatlantic colour to his voice. But yeah I can now hear the Belfast twang – “all the ortists onvoilved…”
Never quite got him, myself. Preferred the work he did with Georgie Fame, The Chieftains, and Pete Bardens, but I think that’s because I like the band, and the singer is just to pull it all together. OOAA.
Ah now you know what I think of that Colin! Fair play to Hot Press though; this is quite the undertaking. Can’t honestly say that many of the ones I’ve listened to felt worth a second listen, but still, it’s a great project.
Vote now!
1: Potted herrings
2: Two lines of blow
3: Little nap
4: Mystic communion with Wm. Blake ect.
5: Piss break
6: Blacking out from excitement and being revived by fluffer
I couldn’t watch to the end – too, too exciting!!
Fret not. Normal service will resume soon.
I bailed at 00:08. Did I miss much?

I’m just as guilty from time to time too.
He didn’t mention ‘copycats’ or ‘ripoffs’ once! He looks pretty well with the facial weight-loss, though (I trust it’s not illness).
His sheer outpouring of bonhomie lasted almost as long as Therapy?’s version ‘Gloria’…
He’s still more cheerful than the Queen. “Oh great, another birthday, fuckin’ ‘ell, what a turn up” etc

He still sounds reassuringly noorn to my ears.
Yet rather like Ian Paisley, Van speaks a ‘version’ of Northern Irish that *absolutely no one else does* – unless they are imitating him.
See also Frank Carson.
What a fishing holiday those three could have had.

I was listening through a phone speaker so maybe that was it.

You are correct so you are.

Hate to agree with Art twice in so many days but having not heard the great man speak for a while I assumed he was now living permanently in LA.
Noooooo. I hate it when I agree with The Lodestone! 🙂
His heart was really in it, wasn’t it.
Never quite got him, myself. Preferred the work he did with Georgie Fame, The Chieftains, and Pete Bardens, but I think that’s because I like the band, and the singer is just to pull it all together. OOAA.
….in the case of the original “Moondance”, the work he did as Georgie Fame.
There’s a great deal of awe and toadying and overrating around Van. He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very grumpy boy…

Emperors new truth there, very little to cherish. Nice idea but somewhat shitey
Wookalily covering Wavelength debuts tomorrow in the series 🙂
I haven’t seen all of them but this stood out for me:
Saw her as an opening act a few years ago and thought there might be something there…
Van is one of the greatest recording artists of all time. He may also be, allegedly, an insufferable prick.
His twattishness has the advantage of being funny, though.
Don’t talk about Lodey like that…
rightness from wrongness
shiteness from songness
(Caution: this may not mean anything.)
listen to the wrongness, wrongness, wrongness, listen listen listen
Very good! 😀
(wrongness)… (listen)… – Brian Kennedy
I said, “Why do all blues songs tend to repeat the first line”; I said “why…. ”
Van said “Why, why, why”
“Hand me down my walking shoes”
“Why did you put them up there, daft twat? What’s wrong with the hallway under the stairs? “
Haven’t we just passed him down his evening robe or something similar?
So he’s going out for a stroll in his dressing gown?
He should move to Hull. Everyone in Tesco dresses like that.
“Pass me, pass me, pass me my Nookie Bear onesie, I’m headin’ down by Avalon, after I’ve got some Cheesey Wotsits”
It just is.
I like the obvious edit where presumably he had to stop for potted herrings.
