You have to admire the US sense of fair play in that given the furore over the Balogun reinstatement they chose not to play a team in the match.

So happy to wake up and see that result. Disgusting behaviour from FIFA, Infantino and Trump. All countries that participated in the tournament should put together a joint statement in protest although all involved are so caught up in their self importance it probably won’t make much impact. Oh, and while we’re at it can we please overturn the results of Scotland’s three matches and drop us in to the quarterfinals?

80 minutes into the Belgium v. Senegal game, and I was given the Belgian team so much flack they probably heard it.

Agree. There are just enough idiot (all countries and teams have them) supporters to provide enough soundbites and memes to further fan the flames. I feel for the team and the supporters. Especially Balogun.
Presumably Infantino is already working on a way of introducing some sort of grand final, whereby the USA plays the winner of what we had previously assumed to be the actual final. This will be played after the ‘winning’ team has gone home. They will instead be represented by a team of French, Spanish or whoever ex pats who happen to be in the US at the time. Or possibly just people with French, Spanish etc sounding names. The government will be able to challenge the selection ( like in a jury trial) of anyone who looks a bit tasty, e.g. anyone who can run unaided for more than 10 seconds. The game will also be played according to what are know in cricket as ‘Surrey rules’. This means that the wealthier team can buy any opposition player in game.

While these plans could well be something that is being considered (nothing would surprise me with the USA and FIFA), sadly I think Trump is beyond satirising.
Everything about him leaves me exhausted, from his sheer, infinite awfulness to his ignorance and absolute shamefacedness. Too many times now, people shrug at his latest attack on civilised norms and good behaviour and say, “That’s Trump being Trump” or “Trump, eh? What *is* he like? Ha, ha.”
This red card fiasco is a case in point: at any other time, with any other leader, this might have been only the latest in a series of scandals that together served to bring about real repercussions regarding undue influence or excess power. With Trump, it’s just another day. Tomorrow there’ll be some other ridiculous act or statement, and the day after that, and the day after that…
From what I can see, there’s no early sign of a serious Democrat challenger for the next election (in fact, are the Dems doing anything at all?). So I fear that unless more people in power start treating Trump with the contempt he deserves, and less like a black-comedy buffoon who’s good for a wacky jape or silly idea, the world will either be stuck with him for a third term (an idea he has implied more than once), or with JD Vance, who could be like Trump but with much more serious intent, which might make him more of a problem.
The Democrat political machine seems terrified of being seen as anything approaching socialist. Hence their shameful monstering of the wonderful NYC mayoral candidate Mamdami, who actually went on to win in a landslide.
And the funny thing is they have no idea what socialism actually is. Health care and the odd bit of rent control = socialism.

As a Gloucestershire fan, you can imagine my delight. I am hoping against hope that we can now meet and beat Sussex, the team that signed two of our players last winter whilst apparently all but insolvent.
