I know @retropath2 is more than a little partial to covers. I share his enthusiasm but not to the same extent – to use golfing terms I would be on the amateur circuit. However I am really taken by this unusual cover of a Dylan classic:

It is a beautiful track @Steve-T. thanks for bringing it to our attention.
What a rich life he has had.

The guitar playing is superb. Now i know why…
“Charles Lloyd & the Marvels, I Long To See You,” features a new group with guitarist, Bill Frisell, Reuben Rogers, bass, Eric Harland, drums and Greg Leisz, on steel guitar. It also has Willie Nelson and Norah Jones as special guests on two tracks. The album was released in January of 2016. They released “Vanished Gardens” with special guest Lucinda Williams in 2018, also on Blue Note.
Bill Frisell often visits Stockholm and he is always wonderful,
Here are Charles and Lucinda.
That is a very fine band. i want to hear more. her Here they are at the LIncoln Centre
Mods! Mods!
Mr T dun a Youtube in his OP, Sir!
I have a few Charles Lloyd albums ‘I Long To See You’ included and I remember when I first heard this, quite exquisite
One of my favourite albums of recent years not least because of the magnificent guitar playing, as referenced by KFD of Bill Frisell and Greg Leisz. Anyone who enjoys thier work should check out thier contributions to Lucinda Williams’ album The Ghosts of Highway 20. It’s a masterclass in understated perfectly judged playing.
From Jerry Granelli’s lovely “Dance Hall” album, here are Bill Frisell and Robben Ford with another Dylan cover:
For those who want to know more about Bill’s life in music this sometimes longwinded but largely entertaining book is a tenner well spent:

Mr Frisell is extraordinarily productive.
Thanks to my homeboy, @DuCo01, I got to see these two superb shows.

I see that Greg Leisz is playing here too. I checked wiki. He has often played with Bill.

What a cv. He seems to have played with every musician on the planet.
Bill Frisell has form with Masters Of War, solo:
It is one of Dylan’s most covered songs, with over 142 listed on Second Hand Songs. That is, of course, if you believe he wrote it all by himself, the tune being another of his trad.arr borrows.
I think adaptations of trad. arr. tunes are just fine. Most of the good trad. folk and blues tunes have been recycled constantly over the years, as people saw fit. You could say that Dylan was keeping to a tradition in that respect.
Tune AND lyrics, however, would be pushing it.
Bill Frisell is a favourite of the Afterword, and one of my favourites as well – lovely tones I first encountered with Power Tools: Strange Meeting, and his contributions to the Hal Willner: Stay Awake Disney covers album.
This closing number is exquisite:
I keep wanting to find a connection with my latest pursuit – a New York-based multi-collaborationist of a similar name, Bill Laswell. But the only connnection between them seems to be both were in bands with John Zorn.
Walked into Oxfam in Norwich this morning, and there it was.
Couldn’t leave that behind, especially after reading this thread.
Nice acquisition – don’t think you will be disappointed.
One of my first encounters with Bill Frisell was his band, the Intercontinentals, who were regularly played on my favourite radio programme, Klingan.
https://www.billfrisell.com/the-intercontinentals
Bill put together a very international line-up-
Bill Frisell – electric and acoustic guitars, loops, bass
Sidiki Camara – calabash, djembe, congas, percussion, vocals
Vinicius Cantuaria – electric and acoustic guitars, vocals, drums, percussion
Christos Govetas – oud, vocals, bouzouki
Greg Leisz – slide guitars, pedal steel guitar
Jenny Scheinman – violin
And the reviews were very enthusiastic.
This is a remarkable album; its sets a new watermark for Frisell’s sense of adventure and taste, and displays his perception of beauty in a pronounced, uncompromising, yet wholly accessible way. Thom Jurek
They made only one album. well worth a listen.
Not an unusual cover as such. 10,000 Maniacs and David Byrne doing ‘Let The Mystery Be’ by Iris Dement. I was delighted to come across this, as I’m a fan of all three. I have the 10,000 Maniacs Unplugged cd but this isn’t on it! If interested, they also cover Jimmie Dale Gilmore’s ‘Dallas’ which also isn’t on the cd.
That is superb @bigstevie. As is that whole MTV UNPLUGGED album.
A Brazilian guy who works at my daughter’s school was telling me the other day that MTV did some great unplugged sessions with Brazilian artists.
I see what he means…..
Here’s another stupendous Unplugged session from MTV BRAZIL. No expense spared.
Here’s the late, great Gal Costa….
Here is a complete list if you wan to investigate….

@bigsteviecook – there was an expanded edition of MTV Unplugged that was released by Rhino last year that contains both these tracks.
It was also released digitally (the version I have) and, I think, on vinyl.
Thanks! I will investigate.
I have investigated. HMV want £60 for the vinyl. I will wait.
