I came across this by accident, while looking for something else – it occurred to me that it might interest some of you.
Read in the comments that this was a rehearsal – and that they were sight-reading! Makes it all the more remarkable!

If it sounded that good in rehearsal, it must have blown the roof off when played in concert!

I know very little about big band music, other than it’s sometimes seems close cousin of more tiresome jazz wankery that my life is just too short for. Stuff like this however, is quite marvelous.

But seriously, folks, I read somewhere that the end credit shot was actually a NASA photograph – I guess the big planet on the right was added by the studio.
That would have been a good one in my “acid test” days.
