A typically satisfying Friday afternoon read – thanks Niall. My friend Tony recorded an album for CBS at Power Plant with Robin Millar. His regular rhythm section was deemed not quite up to scratch and so he had the pleasure of telling Bruce and Pete Thomas what to do and Bob Andrews where to put the piano solo.

Great story, @Skirky, thanks.

Thank you, @niallb!
Your section on Sade brought back happy memories of working in my friend Emma’s clothes shop* in the mid-80s, where we sold dresses she and her business partner Stephen had made, together with what would these days be branded pre-loved or vintage. Diamond Life was one of the two most requested albums I played for the pretty young things who shopped there, along with – weirdly – a Louis Jordan compilation: “Can we have the one with the chickens?”
Spliffs in the back room when it was quiet, being sent out for…er… paper-wrapped “refreshments” from the guy in the Comic Shop, when E & S had a lot of stuff they wanted to finish making, ducking down behind the counter on those occasions when the woman who signed me on weekly wandered past on her lunch break. (Thankfully she never came in…)
Heady days indeed!
*across the road, in Friars Street, from the corner of the Willis, Faber & Dumas building, @Skirky. Oddly enough, while the Norman Foster designed office space has its own Wiki entry, while the clothes shop doesn’t 🤔

I’m so happy to have invoked memories like that.

D’oh! Too many whiles.
(Well it was quite some while ago…)

Just round the corner from Andy’s. We were practically neighbours.
