TV series allow more time for a soundtrack to seep into the viewers psyche. Personally, I think we are living in a golden age of TV soundtracks. I’m deeply impressed by David Holmes’ chilling, edgy soundtrack for London Spy. The first series of The Last Detective featured Americana filled with dread. The Dame creeps out the opening to Last Panthers.
Looking back, The Prisoner’s was stylish and quirky, Callan’s was intriguing and mysterious and the early Dr Who sent shivers down my spine.
Today, I’m looking forward to the return of Luther. Its soundtrack is dark and urban, on the edge of a breakdown.
