When Trump lost the Election in 2020, he loudly blamed the voting machine technology, saying it had been compromised by his political enemies. This was repeated verbatim by Fox News and reported as fact. The main culprit being one Tucker Carlson – a TV presenter
Fast forward 3 and a bit years and Trump’s lies have now cost Fox News $787m because they had to admit the whole story was bollocks and pay that money to the makers of the voting machines to compensate them. Tucker Carlson has now left Fox News, probably fired.
The settlement for defamation was the largest paid to anyone, ever. The high price reflects the seriousness of the allegations and allows Rupert Murdoch and Fox News the ability to draw a line under the whole sorry affair and hopefully avoid being tried for treason.
Now, Sir Rupe is not known for chuckling away his sorrows and letting bygones be bygones. He’s a vindictive character and seems to be in turmoil in his personal life. In his mind, Trump’s lies – harmless and lucrative fun for many years – have now cost him a hell of a lot of money. He won’t starve of course, but he’s unlikely to forgive and forget.
Why I think this development is important is that it has become obvious now, even to Murdoch, that you can’t just report Trump’s nonsense as if it’s fact on your own private “news” network and be able to proceed without consequences. CNN have stopped reporting on Trump’s speeches because, let’s face it, he’s in full David Icke territory now.
Is this enough to finish Trump?
Trump finished? I’ll believe that when the twat is dead.
Fill it’s mouth with garlic and ensure a stake through its heart to be sure.
I have a small bet with my wife that the reason he’s gone isn’t the Dominion case, it’s the one being filed by his ex-producer.
Can you elaborate on that?

Thanks. Not looking good for Fox or DT…
From https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-65318654
“Fox still faces a second, similar defamation lawsuit from another election technology firm, Smartmatic, which is seeking $2.7bn.”
Even if Murdoch settles out of court with Smartmatic for a similar sum, it will have cost Fox/him, say, $1.5 billion.
Here’s a handy guide to Trump’s other ongoing legal troubles:

And yet, nearly half of the USA voted for him twice.
About 30% actually. Turn out is generally low at US elections.
Should be a requirement for anyone entering an election that they promise to abide by the result
You’re right, I should have said “nearly half of voters in the USA”
The truth is dawning on Republicans, but 63% still believe the election was stolen. With that level of delusion, I wouldn’t bet on Trump going away. My best hope is a massive heart attack, although no doubt 63% of Republicans will be convinced he was murdered.
I think Fox News will continue to support Trump. They can’t do that with Tucker Carlson presenting. We have seen from his messages that what he says about Trump is the opposite of what he thinks.
I was just reading The Washington Post online and Fox seem to favour DeSantis and Murdoch is actively against Trump’s nomination. I’m not sure which is worse as DeSantis is pretty extreme but doesn’t make the ridiculous, blustering statements that Trump does so may appear more credible to Republican voters. Glad I don’t live there.
While most of us here don’t live there, we’re all impacted by what
happens in the US
Remember thinking “what kind of choice is this?” in 2020.
The options for 2024 are even starker.
It’s sad that (with one very obvious exception) the level of scrutiny of US facing presidential candidates is now so unyielding that so few young people can be bothered to put their names forward.
Is it just me, but I can’t see this thread on the front page of the forum?
Is it because I pressed on the phone to turn off Sunday’s alert and my mind is now under the control of the global illuminati?
I think Rob C broke things by possibly not using the box 🙂
Sorry I meant Jim Cain, not that I am blaming him
Continually putting people in boxes like this isn’t helping anyone, Dai…

In other news, Richard Sharp has resigned because he arranged a 800K loan for Johnson and then Johnson appointed him head of the BBC. Neither of them declared this at the time.
So – the PM needed a loan of 800K ( ! ) even though all his living expenses are provided by the State and he draws a PM’s salary plus benefits. We also don’t know who actually provided the 800K. The man is a disaster zone.
