Just passed away, another victim of Covid-19.
I didn’t follow him over the years but he provided one of my earliest musical memories. My dad bought his ‘Live at PJs’ album and it was on the turntable regularly when I was growing up. I’m wondering if I should root it out of his cupboard.
And he was in ‘The Dirty Dozen’.
I refreshed my memory of his catalogue – and pretty pedestrian it is.

I’m guessing he was much more successful in the USA rather than in the UK.
I recall that when I was about 16 I bought a couple of cheapo ‘Star Collection’ compilations on WEA – one of Vanilla Fudge tunes (including their awesome version of Some Velvet Morning) and the other of Iron Butterfly grindathons (this gem introduced me to the mighty Belda Beast). Both LPs had rear sleeves advertising other artists on the label for whom similar compilations were available. The artist whose name stood out as being an extremely odd bedfellow with those two monsters was one Trini Lopez. Like seeing an advert for a nunnery in an Amsterdam red light window.

Trini obviously managed to impress quite a few big names in his heyday.

Makes me realise that I have been misusing vulpine too. I thought it meant wolfish, not fox-like.
He also had a signature guitar model with distinctive long diamond shaped F holes (in fact not F holes at all) which Dave Grohl likes a lot.
Add to the list of guitars that just look silly with the wrong shaped F holes. See also UK Rickenbackers with f holes instead of slashes (and yes, I know Townshend used one, but they just look wrong).
OR…and it’s just an opinion…the most drop dead gorgeous of the 335 family.
I don’t really like the head stock.
It’s a bit odd to see a headstock like that on a Gibson. Looks wrong.
Like on the not upside down Firebird. Just not right. Someone tried to sell me one once. I just couldn’t get past it.
