Friday and Saturday nights on SkyArts are often worth a look – tonight is no different.
(Still got that Madness show form a couple of weeks ago to catch up on).
Dear Sky Arts,
Do you know you are filling up space on my PVR?
Thank you – keep up the good work
(and can you re-run those old Classic Album shows again soon)
Black Type says
BBC are focusing on TOTP 1990. Not a vintage year, I fear.
Stan Deely says
Actually, the two 1990 TOTP’s shown that evening were playing in the background at work and I was pleasantly surprised at the killer to filler ratio Beats International, EMF, Vanilla Ice (he sucks but its a killer tune) and Blue Pearl one after another. Or did I just catch a lucky 20 minutes.
bobness says
Im with Black Type. Not a great year, a serious comedown from 89. Have to agree on EMF, though. Choon.
Deviant808 says
There was a bit of a lull in the middle with En Vogue / Maria McKee / Londonbeat , but it overall it was pretty good with KLF, Betty Boo, Monie Love & Primal Scream on later, just so long as you ignore Elton John and “Sacrifice” anyway…
fentonsteve says
Contrast and compare Maria McKee singing live in the studio to a backing track, wearing a billowy black full-length dress and looking distinctly uncomfortable, with Sinead O’Connor staring straight down the camera lens and owning her performance.
I love them both as performers but, Maria, why bother?
Black Type says
Not a popular view, but I’ve always absolutely adored that song. Impressed my wife no end bawling along with Maria…
fentonsteve says
Me too, especially the acoustic version on one of her later b-sides.
I meant why bother turning up to ToTP if you’re not going to get into the manic spirit? There must have been a video full of Days Of Thunder out-takes they could have shown instead.

Yup, a killer tune. John Deacon was a very underrated songwriter…

Has it replaced BBC Four? (with commercials)
Smudger says
I have to say I’m quite enjoying the Guy Garvey shows. Some quality performances are being unearthed.
Twang says
Who’s been on?
Smudger says
Each show is about a particular year, 1977 last night. Quite a bit of the show centred on a programme called ‘Marc’ which appeared to be a kid’s show hosted by Marc Bolan. They showed a duet he did with Bowie.
There was also a performance by Joan Armatrading on Russell Harty, Iggy, Buzzcocks, Blondie and others.
Almost Simon says
Ive watched all the episodes, you can download them via sky. All excellent but the bloody chit chat mid song, every song does spoil it. That aside i’m impressed, very good but could be a lot better.
Stan Deely says
I taped the Garvey, Bowie and Floyd on this channnel along with the two Toots shows on BBC 4. And what with Robert Plant on Jools Holland what a great night for music TV
I actually “saw” the Pink Floyd Pulse tour so would be good to revisit. I’m not really a fan of their knowing only Piper, Relics and Wish you were here. I hadn’t really rated the other ones I had heard up til then – Saucerful of Secrets Dark Side of the Moon however my brother in law was working as a lighting technician at the gig and smuggled me and my friend in, pretending we were lighting crew. We saw the gig from the lighting rig.
We took some mushrooms and actually enjoyed the first part of the show The Division Bell bit which we found dancey and a bit contemporary. By the time the did Dark Side of the Moon, the mushrooms had kicked in and I found it a bit fascistic and depressing. I’m only now starting to appreciate this album.
Moose the Mooche says
I saw this in updates and thought someone had done a docco on the Burning Spear album, but of course it’s old Father Fintan Stack again. And Pulse turns out to be Pink Floyd rather than the Handsworth Revolution hitmakers. Never mind.
Timbar says
Robert Plant on Jools looked like he could be Boris Becker’s father.
DrJ says
It’s great to see my collaboration with Bowie getting an airing. (I’m in the crowd for The Reality Tour video, I’m visible for about 4 frames. Still counts!)
Lunaman says
‘Every second counts’ as they say – well done.
Hamlet says
I met Guy Garvey once… or, should I say, he once met me (a friend introduced him to me; she had no idea who he was). I wish I could say something salacious, but he is a genuinely lovely chap.
