Just post a top 10 if you’re not an uberfan. Let’s not have the argument again, though.

1 Life on Mars
2 Starman
3 Sweet Thing etc
4 Sound and Vision
5 Station to Station
6 Ashes to Ashes
7 Everyone Says Hi
8 Rock n Roll Suicide
9 Win
10 Boys Keep Swinging
1. Ziggy Stardust
2. Ashes To Ashes
3. Sound and Vision
4. Sorrow
5. Oh You Pretty Things
6. John I’m Only Dancing
7. Wild Is The Wind
8. Golden Years
9. Fame
10. Scary Monsters ( and Super Creeps )
1. Be My Wife
2. Heroes
3. Little Wonder
4. Modern Love
5. Thursday’s Child
6. Queen Bitch
7. Under Pressure
8. Life on Mars
9. Starman
10. All The Young Dudes
1. Memory of a Free Festival
– So evocative you can really imagine having been there. The casual use of a friend’s name in the line “And Peter tried to climb aboard” helps make it real.
2. Life On Mars?
3. Wild Is The Wind
– My favourite Bowie vocal.
4. Drive In Saturday
– I’ve always like doo-wop and doo-wop pastiches. This one sounds like an alien doo-wop pastiche.
5. Absolute Beginners
– Despite it being on the soundtrack for the truly appalling film this song really captures the youthful exuberance and swagger of one of my favourite novels.
6. “Heroes”
– Album version much better than single version.
7. Sorrow
8. Sound and Vision
9. Where Are We Now
– One of the greatest ever comebacks. As good as anything in his cannon. The dignity of his nostalgia so much more befitting a man of his age than some of his contemporaries’ embarrassing attempts at a still-youthful vibe.
10. Win
11. Right
12. Letter to Hermione
– As Ricky Gervais points out, the opening line (“The hand that wrote this letrer sweeps the pillow clean”) sounds like Keats or summat.
13. Fantastic Voyage
– Another tremendous, soaring vocal performance.
14. Boys Keep Swinging
15. Up The Hill Backwards
16. Always Crashing In The Same Car
17. God Knows I’m Good
– Bowie doesn’t do many straightforward ‘story’ songs.
18. Golden Years
19. Young Americans
20. A New Career In A New Town
– I don’t generally like Bowie’s instrumentals – I think there are people who cover similar ground so much better (which can’t be said of his commercial singles) – but this really fits in with vibe of Sound and Vision and Always Crashing. I think some canny pop star should put lyrics and a melody over it as an experiment.
Someone posted this spiffing delight on the old site. Well worth a listen if you haven’t already:
As for a canny pop star writing lyrics and a melody to A New Career In A New Town, try this:
1 Drive in Saturday
2. Life on Mars
3. Young Americans
4. Space Oddity
5. Ashes to Ashes
6. Heroes
7. Queen Bitch
8. Ziggy Stardust
9. Absolute Beginners
10. Changes
The OP seems to missed off ‘Absolute Beginners’ from the top of the list when they cut and pasted it
He peaked with The Laughing Gnome, which used his grating, affected vocals to best effect. It’s been steadily downhill ever since.
A man who doesn’t know how to pronounce his own surname properly is simply not to be trusted.
How many ways can you pronounce “Jones”?
I think you know what I mean. Anyway, he probably pronounces it ‘John -ez’.
Doesn’t he pronounce it to rhyme with joey or snowy? I knew someone called Bowie who said his name in the same way, which I assume means it’s the right way. It’s some of his fans who get it wrong – JK Rowling has the same problem.
So does Andy Warhol. I mean War-hol. Or should I say War-hol?
In this interview, Paxman pronounces it to rhyme with Howey and Bowie replies “I always thought it was Bowie” (to rhyme with Joey). “I don’t even know how to pronounce it anymore.”

Paxman is correct. Boo-ee is also acceptable, in North east Scotland at least.
I was very confused when I first saw Crimson Tide, because people kept saying “Float the boo-ee!” Eventually I realised they meant buoy.
David Buoy?
Sound and Vision
Heroes
Station to Station
Ashes to Ashes
The Bewlay Brothers
Sons of the Silent Age
Stay
Fashion
Secret Life of Arabia
Absolute Beginners
All this Bowienanigans makes me miss our erstwhile/occasional NYC correspondent whose answer was, as always, Bowie.Whatever happened to whatsisname?
Sheez? Sheezmeister? Summat like that.
Sheev. Came to me in the car.
That sounds like a religious experience.
If you need inspiration @simongmusic of the Parish will be spinning an hour of Bowie-related tunes on his Charity Shop Classics show in 10 minutes

No votes for Dancing In The Street yet?
Never mind Dancing in the Street, where are the votes for Amsterdam or Five Years?
My top 10 would include both. In particular order:-
Amsterdam
Five Years
Moonage Daydream
Always crashing in the same car
China Girl
Soul Love
This is not America
Ashes to Ashes
Golden Years
Modern Love
Rebel Rebel
Off the t of my h – not in order:
Queen Bitch
Diamond Dogs
Jean Jeanie
Ziggy Stardust
Heroes
Drive in Saturday
Boys Keep Swinging
Suffragette City
John I’m Only Dancing
Modern love – great call. I think Lets dance is an album that gets unfairly criticised (IMHO) as being when the rot set in, but I regard it as the last great album of his world conquering phase.
OOAA.
Ten for right now – in no particular order and will probably change in an hour….

5. Sound and Vision
6. Five Years
7. Sons of the Silent Age
8. Life on Mars
9. Lady Stardust
10. Wild is the Wind
No. Don’t tell me. Young Americans is your favourite Bowie album!
I’m ashamed to say, Tigger, that the only two tracks on “Young Americans” that I know are “Fame” and the title track.
Let’s correct that now with this beauty:
Right
And this thrilling nugget of joy:
Fascination
1. Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)
2. Cat People (film version, not Let’s Dance version)
3. Suffragette City
4. The Jean Genie
5. Life On Mars
6. Modern Love
7. Station To Station
8. Diamond Dogs
9. Everyone Says Hi
10. Changes
Film version of Cat People, yes, yes, yes!
Wall-to-wall DB today, so just 10 from those listened to so far:
– Where Are We Now?
– Lazarus
– Wild Is The Wind
– Five Years
– The Secret Life Of Arabia
– Everyone Says “Hi”
– Absolute Beginners (12″)
– “Heroes”
– Jean Genie (second record I ever bought with my own money)
– Andy Warhol (“it’s pronounced “hol”, not “hole”)
A Bowie top ten? Why not? I haven’t thought very long and they’re not necessarily in order but here are ten songs very dear to my heart:
Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing (reprise)
“Heroes”
Stay
Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide
Lady Stardust
Heathen (The Rays)
Letter To Hermione
Warszawa
This Is Not America
Lady Grinning Soul
In a popular vote, I’m sure Under Pressure will feature but I am just as sure that it will not be in many of our top 10s here (me included). It popped up on the radio a few weeks ago and although it is very, very familiar – it’s a very good track. The vocals work well and the bassline is a monster. Much more understated and, er, funky than a collaboration with Queen should sound like. It has become naff through the years…but it’s a good song.
It deserves to feature. I think it’s fantastic, especially the bits Bowie sings.
Ashes to Ashes
Thursday’s Child
Warzawa
Sorrow
Heroes
Life on Mars
Ziggy Stardust
Loving the Alien
Sunday
Wild is the Wind
No Uberfan me but as a casual listener then ten that spring to mind are…
– Life On Mars
– Ashes To Ashes
– Rock And Roll Suicide
– Heroes
– Absolute Beginners (I love that tune!)
– Golden Years
– Let’s Dance
– Boys Keep Swinging
– The Man Who Sold The World
– Starman
Yeah I would agree with your 10, as another causal listener.
Heresy in some quarters, I know, but ‘Absolute Beginners’ is probably my favourite.
And as a casual listener I don’t want to bandwagon-jump, but it has been really moving to read and listen to the tributes here and elsewhere.
Bit weird given the circumstances but ‘Can’t Help Thinking About Me’, probably my favourite of his, is 50 years old on Thursday.
1. Stay
2. Queen Bitch
3. Wild Is The Wind
4. Quicksand
5. Suffragette City
6. Win
7. Sound and Vision
8. Up The Hill Backwards
9. Love Is Lost (DFA remix)
10. Secret Life Of Arabia
