It appears that none other than Mike McGear has let the cat out of the bag that his big brother’s next album is imminent and is called The Boys of Dungeon Lane. Considering it’s been over five years since his last album and in that drought he has put out four books, a tv series, another hits compilation, a documentary plus soundtrack, plus the whole Get Back thing, let’s get on with what he does best.

It’s a lane in Liverpool near John Lennon airport, in the Speke area where Macca originally came from
With Andrew Watt producing, it’s going to be interesting.
I struggled with his last album, it’s hard to listen to a full album with that current voice. So I have low expectations but hope to be surprised
I’m at a total loss why Andrew Watt gets all the biggest production jobs. He’s like the Boomer Whisperer or something. I really don’t like his work.

Oh, I don’t know. I thought his job on Hackney Diamonds was much better that it could have been. He should be able to address the elephant in the room – the frail, reedy voice – at least.

Yes, that’s really rather lovely. I’m not the world’s biggest fan of Macca or his old band, but by God he knows how to write a song.

I admit I was underwhelmed by McCartney III, very much enjoyed the track above and bodes well for the upcoming album (he says hopefully).
Yes, the voice is thinner (he is 83 after all), but he does seem more comfortable to talk about his past than before (see also Early Days from New)
If he’d released this a bit earlier it would no doubt have been on my (and a few others) ‘Back’ CD swap selection
I’ve always been a Beatles fan but I took a long time to like Macca solo/with Wings although I thought Band On The Run and Ram were exceptional
I like this new song and I’m looking forward to hearing the album which I will definitely buy and hope to play more than 3/4 times
It’s rather lovely, and catchy as anything. Bodes well for the new album. Recent offerings have been patchy to say the least, but this reminds me of Chaos and Creation and Flaming Pie which were two outstanding later albums – both of those were a nod to his past too. His voice is clearly showing his age, but has a nice vulnerability reflecting his time of life. Welcome back Macca.

It’s funny, how childhood’s come around time and again in his songs, ever since Penny Lane – and he always goes deep. This is beautiful – pitched low and affecting, with his thin, quavery voice sounding timeworn and sincere
Lovely. The photo of him with John, who seems to be wearing a tea towel on his head must have been taken by his brother, Mike. His mother watches on from the back step in the other one.
The Forthlin Road lyric talks of meeting there and talking in a secret code – the intriguing part there is that he says back then he made a “promise that will never be broken”.
Sounds great; reminiscent of Early Days on New which also evokes his youth and the young Lennon McCartney friendship. At 83 he’s entitled to get nostalgic and mine his memories for new songs; I look forward to hearing the album.
Happened to be doing a Beatles Weekend and I’m the Magical Mystery Tour element the guide was saying they had been interviewed by BBC the day of release as they had dispensation to play “live” on the bus at 2-50pm. – the time of release.
The following day we were doing the NationalTrust visit of John and Paul’s old houses (well worth doing). The guide at Paul’s house explained that the street signs for Dungeon Lane have already been nabbed by quick off the ball fans!
