Back in the day I bought this LP seduced by all the trendy hype. First couple of plays left me wondering what all the fuss was about. As usual I was 100% Wrong…
IIRC this album was not loved by the critics on release. There now seems to have been some collective amnesia with it being seen, rightly, as one of their best albums.
Hi Roller was probably left off TLRA because it didn’t fit. It’s a good opener and they already had a good one for each side, so decided ‘maybe next time’. Which was not unusual, bands would do it a lot in those days.
Front Page News though always stumped me because the version that appears on Hoy Hoy is classic feat from this period and would have sounded completely at home on TLRA or TLAH. The only theory I can come up with is that they used parts of it for the track Riverboat on Robert Palmer’s Pressure Drop album, and so felt the track was somehow unusable in this form
RIP Valerie Carter.. Feat fans should know her as backing vocals ‘Long Distance Love’ & others but her wonderful album ‘Just a stones throw away produced by Lowell George mainly (couple of tracks produced by Maurice White & featuring Earth Wind & Fire). I can’t post clip so recommend any Feat/EWF fans youtube (or something). The album is fantastic
I only picked up on Valerie Carter fairly recently but absolutely agree that Just A Stones Throw Away is a wonderful album. Wild Child is pretty good too.
That might be an “aspirational” price. I go into collectors stores and there will be a record on the wall with a price tag of say $500 but the guy at the counter says it is on consignment and he will probably take $75 cash.

Great playing but a victim of the muddiness of so many live albums of the period.
Maybe that’s it, but I can say it’s sounding pretty good on Spotify here this morning 🙂
Here is the version of High Roller they left off The Last Record Album. It cooks.
Why did they leave it off? LRA isn’t a long album.
I don’t think they were completely satisfied with it.
They were toying with Front Page News at the same time.

Dad played “Willin'” in the car as part of a compilation tape he had.
I’ve liked ver Feat since I was 8
It was the first music Twang Jr heard in his life – less than 24 hours old. I made sure of that!
Being young and inexperienced in the ways of the world, I thought he was carrying wheat rice and wine…
“Play some rock ‘n roll fer Chrissake!”

Finally picked up Hotcakes and Outtakes for 23 Euros, Rhino edition, made in Germany. Delighted. So why do some here cost over £1000? Anybody know?

BTW. Rock’n’roll, right here
Good move, I got it on issue but the quality is excellent – the tracks from the older albums benefiting from a remastering brush up.
