Because, why stop with Richard (and Linda), when there are so many other Thompsons (and a few Thomsons out there)?
Personally, I’d like nothing more than lots of clips featuring Danny, but anyone with the Thom(p)son moniker is welcome to the family gathering.

Welcome!
After the Thompson Twins, Tom Bailey ended up making dub music. This is a bit generic, but it’s pleasant enough to listen to.
Richard and Linda have done their best to help us out here – there’s a whole clan of them. Here’s daughter Kami
Very dynamic!
She seems to have her dad’s slightly snarly minor key voice. I wonder if that’s a regional accent thing?
Not all went into the music biz http://www.thomsonandson.co.uk/
Barbara Thompson, Jon Hiseman’s missus, deserves a mention.
What a fine musician!
Fringe music worthy of Claudia Winkleman.
I took to the tree in our back garden with the shears the other day. Mrs Moose accused me of making it look like Gwendoline from Wallace and Gromit.
Insulting – I was aiming for Chris Hillman circa 1966.
That was the default look for indie bands in the 80’s, wasn’t it? My Bloody Valentine, Primitives, Birdland, Bobby Gillespie, etc – they all had bowl cuts.
…after I’d dealt with the tree I had to get rid of the Ivy Ivy Ivy.
(sorry)
Everyone needs a Teddy…..
Getting back to Danny Thompson, if I may….this is righteous bass playing…
….and another….if anyone could persuade me to try an upright bass, it’s Danny Thompson….or maybe Jack Lemmon….
The first thing Danny Thompson says in the first seconds of this hour-long video, is how he misses John Martyn every day – they must have had an extraordinarily close musical relationship over the years.
…and, by coincidence, the other long-standing John Martyn bass player was a Thomson – Alan Thomson:
Lee Thompson – he of the “acquired” Saxophone in Madness.
He made a film of his life a couple of years ago.
It’s part biography, part Ealing Comedy
Thompsonly. I presume this is the same chap.
Here is your man Danny, in the fine company of two members of Ketama and kora virtuoso Toumani Diabate: Songhai. They recorded two. albums together.
He’s done his fair share of digging in the world music trenches. I love it – the Dizrhythmia album is superb!
For all fans of the golden age of reggae, the surname Thompson means Errol ‘ET’ Thompson. He was the audio engineer who partnered producer Joe Gibbs to create an avalanche of great records for Dennis Brown, Gregory Issacs, etc. in the mid- to late 70s.
The duo sometimes went under the moniker of the Mighty Two, and it was they who produced the four landmark “African Dub All-Mighty” albums. The most celebrated of the four is “African Dub All-Mighty Chapter 3”, which is often mentioned as one of Afterworders’ absolute favourite dub albums…
I’m partial to this.
That’s some really powerful bass – definitely testing my new LG phone – love it.
I once saw a gig advertised in Newcastle for Richard Thompson but not that one, to distinguish himself from the known RT he billed himself as Richard John Thompson. Which is spooky as that is of course RT’s full name.

No sister of mercy, oh don’t cry for me.
The late Tony Thompson of Chic and The Power Station.

I don’t see RT as a big hitter. He’d never take on the hook shot. Shuffles around the crease a bit. A nudger into the gaps for quick ones and twos. Crafty. A marginally more upbeat Chris Tavaré. I think he’d meet his match here:
How can you rock a balmoral when you don’t have a head?
Thanks to @rich, @Ainsley-The-Admin, etc for reflecting the current obsession in the strapline.
Applause; sky black with Balmorals….
Forgot the berets
https://youtu.be/H9694K85Xc8
Berets here – more of the tea cosy type – Linval Thompson
Not forgetting Chris Thompson – lead singer with Manfred Manns Earth Band for many years including their biggie
Apparently there’s another Chris Thompson who is a singer/guitarist from Hamilton, NZ.
This is rather pleasing:
(The world clearly can’t get enough of dexterous folk guitarists called Thompson)
Quite a discovery. He came to the UK and played in Julie Felix’s band.

Very agreeable indeed.
Paul Thompson is the drummer in both Roxy Music AND The Angelic Upstarts. That’s just silly.
And guitarist in The Cure
(Zhe gets around a bit)
Current Lindisfarne drummer too. And I mean the great PT too
Lucky Thompson
Ja mislim thompson je hrvatska … dom …. i svetinja ….. bez njega nema hrvatske ….od pocetka kuca srce na pravom mistu…….pozdrav svim hrvatima 🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷!!
This speaks for itself.
Does KJT, the pride of Liverpool, count? I mean I don’t know what she’s like on keyboard or guitar, but she can run pretty fast and in a parallel, happier universe, might just have won a gold medal at Tokyo.
A more floral Approach to being a Thompson…
Of course Questlove ( or ?uestlove) isa member of the wider family Thompson:
My old mucker has form with the Thompsons.
Danny’s on this:
Red Hollywood
And both Dan and Rick on these:
World’s End:
Holy Water:
From the days when I could name all the members of Wizzard, Showaddywaddy and Darts Moustachioed bass man Thump Thomson
One of the strangest revelations of Beeb Four’s TotP repeats was that for about eighteen months Darts were on every sodding week. Perhaps they got trapped in the studio.
Moose and KFD both posted clips referencing the Thompson submachine gun. So here’s The Clash for all you Al Capone fans.
Can I point out that I’m wearing Thompson’s Intrepid Trousers? For the man who likes to do two things at once.
(I don’t understand that either – don’t blame me, blame Viv Stanshall)
The old wide legged walk of shame, is it? Brown trousers?
All*will be revealed…
(*well maybe not all, it’s parky out)
You’re a TIT man?
My card!
Sir Charles Thompson was one of Ella Fitzgerald’s favourite pianists.
.
Chester Thompson was one of Frank Zappa’s drummers of choice. Later went on to work with Weather Report & Genesis, after Phil Collins became their main vocalist.
Not forgetting the little waster.
Yum and indeed yum.
This blog post is nearly 4 years old and this one linked to is over a year old.

I wonder if “Wotcher!” ever got made?
There is this from The Cat Club in Pontefract.
Unfortunately I found out about the Cat Club too late to attend this.
9th minute – “I’m gonna piss all over you” Excellent stuff. looking forward to watching the rest later. Thanks, Hubes!
