One of the true greats of 70s soul, a formidable genre. His part in all those great records by The Delfonics, The O’Jays, The Stylistics, New York City and Dusty Springfield is extraordinary, but probably his best work was with The (Detroit) Spinners.
The song below, co-written with his regular writing partner Linda Creed, was the first of his work I was a huge fan of, though being only 7 at the time I was oblivious to the role of writers, arrangers and producers.

I only appreciated this music as good pop when it was charting. I’m glad that I get it’s brilliance now.
